Erna Schmidt, 99, of Merrill, died Monday, November 1, 2004, at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill.
Born in the town of Scott on October 28, 1905, Erna was the daughter of the late Otto and Emma Stark Oestreich. She married Clarence Schmidt on June 6, 1934. He preceded her in death on September 27, 1992.
Erna was a very kind mother and homemaker. She dairy farmed with her husband Clarence in the town of Corning. Erna was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in the town of Corning where she and Clarence served as custodians. She enjoyed gardening, canning, picking berries and crocheting. Erna also enjoyed being with her family and grandchildren.
Surviving are her sons Warren (Marlene) and Kenneth (Carla), both of Merrill; daughter Marie (Pat) McCarthy, Ottawa, Ill.; grandchildren Patrick (Leslie), Greg and Melissa McCarty and Kyle (Lori) and Sara Schmidt; and nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving are brother Otto (Marge) Oestreich, Merrill; and sister Esther Biggs, Merrill; and sisters-in-law Ethel and Leona Oestreich, both of Merrill; Grace Oestreich, Mosinee; Elvira Schmidt, Wausau; and Edna Zuelsdorff, Merrill. She was preceded in death by seven brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services are Thursday, November 4, 10:30 a.m., Immanuel Lutheran Church, town of Corning. Rev. Joel Danner will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight, Wednesday, at the Waid Funeral Home in Merrill from 4-7 p.m., and again on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to the hour of services. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
