The many friends in this city of Mrs. A. Bascom will be pained to hear of her death which occurred at her home in Bloomville last week. She has been an invalid for some time and her death was not unexpected. The funeral was held last Saturday Rev. J. V. Hughes conducting the services.

Died, May 14, 1896, at her home in Russell, Mrs. Margaret A. Bascom, at the age of 62 years.

She was born at Perth Center, N. Y., Jan. 8, 1835. In 1865 she came to Whitewater, Wis., and a year late to Oshkosh and resided there about 13 years, she then removed to Merrill, which at that time was known as Jenny, where near Bloomville, she has lived for the most of the past 16 years.

The life and character of Mrs. Bascom was of a very sincere and high order and drew the respect and esteem of all who, knew her. She was an earnest Christian and always ready to engage in every good work. She loved the Lord and his cause, and was so interested in her neighbors and their children, that she gave a lot on which was built a little Presbyterian Chapel in which services have been held from time to time and a Sabbath School kept up. She was always ready to welcome every true worker for, the Master, no matter of what denomination. She was a consistent member of the First Presbyterian church, the pastor of which, the Rev. J. V. Hughes officiated at her funerals, assisted by Rev. Joseph Brown, of Marshfield, who was a true friend of the deceased, and had been so often encouraged by her in his missionary work in that vicinity. There was a very large number of people at the little Chapel, and the services were especially solemn.
