---Bascom, Andrew ( 24 Jan. 1819 - 15 Feb. 1888)

At his house, in the town of Russell, Lincoln County, on February 15, 1888, A. Bascom, aged 69 years. Mr. Bascom was one of the original settlers of the town of Russell, and was well known and highly respected by all. The cause of his death was Bright's disease of the kidneys.

Andrew Bascom died at his home in the town of Russell, on Wednesday, February 15, in the seventieth year of his age.

Deceased was born in Madison County, New York, January 24, 1819. On the 16th of September 1846, he was married to Adelia S. Tompkins, who died September 29, 1857 leaving four children, one of whom is Mrs. C. A. Berkman of Russell. On the 7th of October, 1860, Mr. Bascom was married to Margaret Kennedy, to whom was born three children; two of whom---Charles and Albert--are living with their mother; the other dying in infancy. In 1865 Mr. Bascom moved to Whitewater, Wisconsin, where he lived on year, when he came to Oshkosh and resided there until 1879, when he moved to Russell to make, in his old age a new home in a new country. He was elected justice of the peace at the organization of the town, and has held the office continuously since. The funeral services was held on Thursday and attended by a large number of neighbors and friends. The sermon was from Job XIV, 14 and the last clause of John XIV, 19.

Mr. Bascom's mental powers were vigorous until the hour of his death. He had spoken freely of his death, for which he was prepared by an unshaken trust in the Lord Jesus Christ, and, although having suffered severely, his last hours were almost a quiet sleep which was scarce disturbed by the coming of death. A most faithful and devoted wife mourns the loss of her husband, the children their father and we the lost of a good citizen.
