Grace E. Swett

Grace E. Swett, 93, of 6001 Alderson St., Schofield, formerly of 500 Grand Ave., Wausau, died Thursday, May 31, 2007, at Kennedy Park Medical and Rehabilitation Center, Schofield.

Grace was born June 5, 1913, in Merrill, daughter of the late William and Barbara Zentner Krueger. She married Harry H. Swett on April 19, 1941, in Dubuque, Iowa. He preceded her in death on Dec. 11, 1988.

Grace and Harry spent five years in West Palm Beach, Fla. While in Florida, Grace knitted for a clothing store. They then moved to Baraboo, where they worked at the munitions plant for two years. Grace and Harry returned to Merrill and purchased the former "Ace of Clubs" tavern north of Merrill. They later converted the tavern into a restaurant and renamed it "Yellow Stone Grill." Grace had also worked as a waitress at the former Bellveaue Cafe and Lincoln Hotel in Merrill. When the pair retired, they moved to Schofield. Grace was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Schofield. She enjoyed knitting, dancing and taking trips to the casino.

Survivors include her son Mack (Dianne), Palisade, Colo.; grandchildren Nicholas (Beth) Swett, Seattle, Wash.; and Leslie Swett, Palisade, Colo.; and great-grandchildren Skylar, Rob and Kari. She was preceded in death by her siblings Edna Williquette and Walter Krueger.

Funeral services were Monday, June 4, at the Taylor & Stine Funeral Home, Merrill Rev. Terry Kelb officiated. Burial was in Merrill Memorial Park.
