Michael R. Holliday, 67, of Merrill, died Sunday, October 3, 2004, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, under Comfort Care and Hospice Services.

Michael was born May 24, 1937, in Sturgis, Mich., son of the late Miles and Dorothy Cole Holliday.

Michael attended Northwestern University and Roosevelt University, earning a B. A. in psychology. He served as a warrant officer in Army intelligence based in Okinawa until 1963, then in Vietnam until 1964. In 1967 he joined Wausau Insurance Companies as a sales representative in Illinois. In 1986 he moved to Wausau to work at the firm’s headquarters and retired in 1995 form risk management services as a claims services supervisor after 28 years of service with the company. During retirement he was a part time driver from Gerivan and also worked at Merrill Memorial park. Mike bred and raised Peruvian Paso horses, which was one of his life’s passions. As an active member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Rib Mountain, he served on various committees including the Fellowship Committee. He enjoyed his horses, camping with his family on the Great Lakes, snorkeling, spear fishing, photography, music, crossword puzzles, history, chess, whittling and reading books on early Christianity as well as westerns, mysteries and classics.

Michael is survived by Sharon, his wife of 28 years; his children Catherine Wilson, Seaside, Calif.; Elizabeth Holliday, Monterey, Calif.; Cole Holliday, Wausau; and Steve (Sheri) Patrone, Northville, Mich.; and grandchildren Carissa and Brandon Patrone. Also surviving are his cousin and sister of his heart Beverly (Bobbi Byrd) Alleger, Osseo, Mich.; nephews and nieces; ex-wife Anne (Bob) Packard, Carmel, Calif.; as well as grown up foster children that he and Sharon cared for in their home between 1982-1986.

Funeral services were Friday, October 8, at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, Rib Mountain. Rev. John Roseth officiated. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery. Osseo, Mich. The Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Ave., Wausau; handled the arrangements. Memorials may be directed to Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services or to the music program at St. Andrew Lutheran Church. Online condolences at www.petersonkraemer.com.
