Crookston, a station on the F. E. & M. V. R. R. in the northwestern part of Cherry county, 11 miles west of Valentine. Population 50.
Fort Niobrara is in the northeastern part of Cherry county, on the Niobrara river, four miles from Valentine, the county seat, which latter place is the depot for all the necessary supplies for this post. As its name implies it is a military post, and trade is principally carried on with the Indians at the reservation upon which it is situated.

Sparks, a postoffice in the northeastern part of Cherry county, on the north bank of the Niobrara river, 18 miles from Valentine, the county seat and nearest railway shipping point.
Chanfty H C, blacksmith.Valentine, one of the most picturesque prosperous and progressive communities in Cherry county, 315 miles from Omaha, on the line of the F. E. & M. V. R. R. It has a population of 800. Two rivers, the Niobrara and Minishaduza here meet and unite their waters, and Fort Niobrara lies but little way beyond, being but four and a half miles from the town. The supplies for this fort come from Valentine, and is to a certain extent a source of wealth. Here is also located a U. S. Land Office. The firm of Harrington & Haley abstracters also deal largely in real estate and farm loans. The Cherry County Bank conducted by Sparks Bros., and the Bank of Valentine, both stand well and meet all the wants of the people the hotels are the Ray House and Valentine House, both very popular. The press is represented by the Republican, conducted by W. S. Barker, is enterprising and progressive with the times, having a large circulation. The schools and churches are as fine as any in the state. Valentine will rank as one of the leading places along the line of the F. E. & M. V. R. E.
