Gage County The valley of the Big Blue must become at no distant day the greatest manufacturing section in the state, end possibly west of the Missouri River and east of the mountains. From within a few miles of the head to its mouth, this stream is one continuous chain of the finest mill seats found in any country, with an abundance of water to propel any amount of machinery. Operations have already been commenced, and the stream improved at its forks and at Beatrice. At the latter place, a first class flouring mill with two pairs of burs, and a saw-mill have been erected by F. Roper, the proprietor of the water power of this place. Beatrice, the county seat of Gage County, is situated on the Blue River, 8 miles from the Kansas tine, and in the exact geographical centre of the county, north and south, and very near east and west. The river at this point runs over a bed of rock and is about 175 feet wide with an average depth of 20 inches in the lowest water. The left bank is also of solid rock, forming with the aid of a substantial dam, a mill power of 7 feet head, and with the volume of water afforded at all times by the Big Blue, makes it the most commodious place for manufacturing in the state.

Gambling George Boulware was brought before his Hon. chief Justice Mason on Wednesday evening, on charge of gambling and being interested in the gambling institution carried on by negroes in Kearney Ward. The prisoner plead guilty to the charge and was fined $9o and costs. The marshal was compelled to knock down one of the prisoner's accomplices before he could make the arrest. The gambling which has been in progress heretofore in this city is being rapidly "dried up."

Game Law. Expires this evening. Our sportsmen have been cleaning up their guns and preparing for the fun tomorrow. If they make their words good we will have prairie chickens and quail on sale at the News office tomorrow evening. The number of chickens expected from the hunter by 'ye local" is as follows:--Jas. Miller, 6 chickens and 2 quail: Maj. Nov/some 5 chickens; Barry Simpson, an even dozen; H. M. McComas 20 chickens; H. M. Holfe 10 chickens; Capt. Lincoln 15 chickens; Buck street 8 chickens and Dick Ward one dozen chickens--making a total of 88 birds We may have over-estimated by about 80 birds, but hope not.

Game Law. Now in force in this State is denounced by our sportsmen. They claim that the young chickens are almost as large as the hens now and very wild. By the time the game law expires the chickens will be in the neighborhood of the Big Blue

Game Law. Of the State of Nebraska, closes on the last of this month, after which time on sportsmen can shoot "to their hearts content." The Prairie chickens and quail at this time of the year are young and small and hardly worth the ammunition used in killing them. It is cruel and wrong to kill them and in direct violation of our State laws.

General Hancock's Expedition The Junction Union says that his mules are in very precarious circumstances. At Fort lamed, his bay exhausted and a courier was dispatched to Fort Barker for a supply. He has with him about 1700 =lea and but 16 or 17 wagon loads of hay were sent which was inadequate. A letter from Fort Phil Kearny reports Indian camped on Tongue River about midway between the post and Fort C. F. Smith of about 11,000 warriors. The tribal organizations are given as follows, with an estimated average of 4 warriors to each lodge. They are all of the Sioux Nation. Min-ne-con-jos, 430 lodges; Muk-pap-pas, 300; Black Feet, 170; E-ta-zip-cha, 140; Two Kettle Band, 120; Sand that don't eat dog, 120; Northern Brules, 150; Southern Brules, 180; 0-ga-la-lah, 190; Southern Cheycunes, 400; Northern Chcyennes, 160; Ar-rah-hoe, 60; making a total of 2,720 Lodges. The letter states a small but respectable war is inevitable during the spring and summer. The expedition from Fort, Phil Keamny will be composed of the 2nd Cavalry, 18th, 27th, 12th, 20th and 19th Infantry, in all about 6,000 men.
