Gold From the New York Evening Post. California. Discovery. First found in 1848, in a mill-race belonging to John A Sutter owner of a principality of fifty square leagues, in California and thousands of cattle; and James W. Marshall the superintendent of the mill, an industrious and thriving American, was the discoverer. These two men, who ought to be wealthy beyond bounds were both ruined and reduced to absolute want by their luck; Colonel Sutter lost his cattle by open robbery, was driven from his estate by squatters crazed with the desire for gold; was involed in expensive law suits to recover his land; and was finally and entirely ruined by an adverse decision in a case covering two-thirds of his property, which he had sold with warranty deeds. Marshall was made a homeless wanderer for years; if Republics were not ungrateful, California would before this have granted to Sutter and Marshall at least a competency for their old age.

Gold Discovery A gentleman who has been keeping ranch near Fort Sedgewick during the past year passed through Nebraska City on his way home in Canada. It seems that during his absence gold has been found in large quantities on his farm. Speculators from Boston have offered the sum of $350000 in gold for his tract of 103 acres. From late Canada papers it is learned that the lately discovered mines in that province are pronounced the richest in the world.

Gold. Mines. The Denver Tribune contains a letter from J. M. Colton, now in the Cimmaron mines, giving disencouraging accounts of gold interest. Gold Mining Snow nearly all disappeared in James Creek mining district end the miners are going vigorously to work to develop their property. Holders of lodes are sanguine that they have just as good a thing as they want. Several arastras are being worked with success but have no reliable figures as to yield or work done. If the gold can be saved by using such machinery the ores may be considered anything but refractory. Denver Gazette of the 26th
