Candidate for President of USA in 1896. Served as Colonel of the 3rd Nebraska, during Spanish American War in 1898 (FL & Havana).John J. Pershing - see WW I

Gerald R. Ford, born 14 July 1913 in Omaha, NE (38th President, served 1974-1977)

George W. Meiklejohn became the Sec. of War under Wm. Howard Taft (had previously settled in Nance County).
Evelyn Norton Lincoln, native of Polk, NE was personal secretary to John F. Kennedy for 12 years. (Her father, John Nathan Norton had served as a Nebraska Congressman.) Following the assassination she worked for the Kennedy Foundation. She wrote a book about her experiences. Mrs. Lincoln & her husband Harold Lincoln are buried at Arlington Cemetery.
Howard L. Peterson - former State Senator
Born 22 Mar 1914, Stanton, IA. Parents: William & Anna Peterson. Died 19 Nov 2003 at Grand Island, NHE. Service: Mon. at Messiah Lutheran Church, Grand Island, NE. Burial: Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Survivors: His wife, 4 sons, 14 gch., 3 g-gch; a sister.
