QUESTION 7 was taken up -- "Who have been admitted into full membership?" and the characters of Farnum Ellis, Wm. H. Underwood, E. E. Hosman and Wm. H. Linn, were passed. They reported their collections and they were passed in their studies.
The characters of R. J. Cocking, Frank A. High, E. E. Wilson and A. L. Kellogg, were passed, and they reported the work on their charges.
Frederick Tonge was discontinued at his own request.
The characters of E. T. George and W. B. Slaughter were passed, and the Bishop was requested to leave them without appointment, to attend some one of our schools.VISITORS. -- Rev. Dr. J. W. Hamilton, corresponding secretary of the Freedman's Aid and Southern Education Society was introduced. He addressed the conference and took subscriptions for the Christian Educator.
ADDRESS. -- Mrs. M. A. Claflin gave an address in the interest of our hospital and deaconess home. On motion of T. C. Clendenning a memorial from the trustees of this institution was referred to the committee on Methodist Hospital and Deaconess Home.
QUESTION 10 was taken up "What members have completed the conference course of study?" And the characters of the following were passed: they reported their charges and they were elected to elder's orders: James H. Wilcox, Walter H. La Vake and Norman A. Martin. The character of Lewis Campbell was passed. He was continued in the studies of the fourth

year and the Bishop was requested to leave him without appointment to attend some one of our schools.
QUESTION 11 -- was taken up --"What others have been elected and ordained deacons?"
The character of Henry H. St. Louis was passed, he reported his work and he was elected to deacon's orders.
Francis M. Clark was called forward and addressed by the Bishop on the character of the work of a local deacon. His examination was reported and he was passed in his studies and elected to deacon's orders.
The committee reported the examination of Will. J. Hotherall, and he was passed in his studies as a candidate for local deacon's orders.QUESTION 12 was taken up: "What local preachers have been elected to elders' orders?" There were none.
The Bishop addressed the conference on the importance of special preparation for conducting the mid-week prayer service.
A communication from Dr. J. Benson Hamilton was referred to the committee on annnuity (sic) fund.
T. W. Bovee reported as to the proposed visit to the State Insane Asylum. The excursion was abandoned, but arrangements were made to go in groups.
Announcements were made, and J. T. Knuckey was appointed to conduct devotional services to-morrow morning.
On motion of J. W. Jennings, conference was dismissed with a stanza of "All hail the power of Jesus' Name." and prayer and benediction by the Bishop.
Fourth Day.
SATURDAY -- MORNING SESSION.Conference opened promptly at 8:30 a. m., with the Bishop in the chair.

MINUTES of yesterday's session were read and approved.
A MEMORIAL from Grand Island District on educational matters, presented by J. W. Robinson, was referred to the committee on education.
ADDRESS. -- The Bishop addressed the conference concerning the importance and work of the presiding eldership in our church.
The conference stewards made a tentative report, which was, on motion of R. L. Powers, recommitted.VISITORS. -- Rev. Dr. Cranston. agent of the Western Methodist Book Concern, was introduced and gave an address.
Chancellor Crook gave an address in the interest of Nebraska Wesleyan University.QUESTION 7 was resumed: Who have been admitted into full membership?" And Farnam Ellis, Wm. H. Underwood, W. H. Linn, Robert J. Cocking, E. E. Hosman and F. A. High were called forward and addressed by the Bishop. The conference sang two verses of the hymn, "A charge to keep I have." and T. C. Clendening led in prayer, after which the committee reported their examinations, and they were advanced in their studies. Elmer E. Hosman and Frank A. High were elected to deacon's orders, the others had been previously ordained.
QUESTION 5 was taken up: "Who have been confirmed on trial?" The characters of the following were passed: John A. Roads, Albert V. Wilson, Richard J. Millard, Benj. D. Kiester, E. R. Adriance, D. R. Collings and E. E. Wilson. They reported their work; their

examinations were reported; they were advanced in their studies and continued on trial.
The character of Thos. P. Donnelly was passed. He reported his work, his examinations were reported, he was advanced in his studies and required to read and furnish syllabi on "History of Missions, two vols.", "Digest of Meth. Law." "Governing Conf. of Meth." and an essay.
The character of Edward W. Errickson was passed.
He reported his work and was passed in his studies, conditioned on reading the books in the course, except, "Tongue of Fire."
The character of Henry B. St. Louis was passed. He reported his work. and was passed in his studies and conditioned on reading the books in the course and presenting an essay.
The character of Richard N. Throckmorton was passed. He reported his work and he passed in his studies, conditioned on "Miley's Theology."
The character of John H. Vogt was passed. He reported his work and he was continued on trial.
Arthur L. Kellogg was passed in his studies, conditioned on the hooks in the course of reading.
On motion of J. B. Maxfield, Benj. F. Mastin was discontinued.
The character of Will. E. Northrop was passed and he was continued in the studies of the first year.BENEVOLENCES. -- The presiding elders were made a committee on apportionment of the benevolences.
Chancellor Crook addressed the conference and distributed catalogues of Nebraska Wesleyan University.BOOK ACCOUNTS. --The following were appointed

On motion of J. W. Robinson, it was ordered that when we adjourn it shall be to meet at 2:30 p. m.
J. W. Robinson was appointed to preside at the afternoon session in the absence of the Bishop.
J. B. Leedom was appointed to conduct the devotional services.
Announcements were made, and on motion of J. B. Maxtield,the conference adjourned with singing, and the benediction by Dr. Cranston.
AFTERNOON SESSION.Conference convened pursuant to adjournment at 2:30 p. m. with J. W. Robinson in the chair.
DEVOTIONAL. -- Services were conducted by J. B. Leedom.
Minutes of the morning session were read and approved.REPORTS. -- The report of the committee on Sunday Schools and on Freedman's Aid and Southern Education Society were read and adopted.
MINUTES. -- On motion of the secretary, the roll was called for subscriptions for conference minutes, and collectors appointed.
The following resolution presented by Wm. Gorst, was read and adopted:.
Whereas, After the creation of the Northwest Nebraska Conference our Board of Bishops deemed it advisable to place the date of the North Nebraska Conference one week earlier than usual, thus making our date come very early in September, and,
Whereas, we are confident that such an early date, coming as it does, before the marketing of the present

crop, has resulted in the loss of both benevolent monies and pastor's salaries. Therefore:
Resolved. That, we very respectfully, but most earnestly, request our Bishops to make our date two or three weeks later in the season, and declare that we would prefer to meet even a month later than at the date of this year.
Resolved. That, we hereby instruct the conference secretary to forward a copy of these resolutions to the secretary of our Board of Bishops just before their meeting in May. 1894.

Whereas. This annual conference took action, at its session one year ago, concerning the organization of an Itinerant's Club, and
Whereas. The citizens of Fremont, Nebraska, the seat of the Central Chautauqua Assembly, have generously offered to defray the railroad expenses of the under graduates of the North Nebraska Conference, in attendance upon the session of the Itinerant's Club. Therefore,
Resolved, 1st, That we re-affirm our conference action of one year ago.
Resolved, 2nd, That the examining committees of the conference classes meet with the Itinerant's Club at its annual meeting in Fremont, and examine all classes, and give certificates of standing.
Resolved, 3d, That in view of the central purpose of the Itinerant's Club to increase our efficiency as preachers of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and the beneficient results which will inevitably follow the carrying out of these resolutions a full attendance of examiners and under-graduates is most earnestly urged.

We recommend that these officers with Rev. W. H. H. Pillsbury and W. K. Beans, constitute a program committee for the Itinerant Club.

QUESTION 9 was taken up: "What members are in the. studies of the fourth year?"
The characters of the following were passed and they reported their work. Their examinations were reported and they were advanced in their studies to the class of the fourth year: Wm. Van Buren, Jehu H. Johnson., John A. Dooley, C. O. Larrison, Frank W. Bross and A. L. Mickel.
The character of John T. Crooks was passed. He reported his work. His examinations were reported and he was continued in the class of the third year.
It was announced that Abram J. Young had been transferred to the Nebraska Conference.
On motion of T. C. Clendening, Albert W. Hobson, was located at his own request.
The character of Thos. Bithell was passed: and he was continued in the studies of the third year.QUESTION 22 was taken up: "Who are the supernumerary preachers?" The characters of the following were passed and they were continued in the supernumerary relation: H. L. Powers, H. C. Dayhoff, J. P. Roe, with request by the conference that he be appointed Sup't of Omaha city missions and church extension society, J. W. Bovee, C. H. Savidge, Samuel Cates, T. W. Owen and N. H. Gale.
The characters of the following were passed and

on motion they were in made effective: C. F. Heywood, W. A. Davies and W. R. Phelps.
QUESTION 23 was taken up: "Who are the superannuated preachers?" The characters of the following were passed and their relations continued: Jacob Adriance, Chas. Balson, D. C. Worts and D. T. Olcott.
On motion of T. C. Clendening the board of conference stewards was requested to send letters of fraternal greeting to the absent superanuates.QUESTION 4 was taken up: "Who have been received on trial?" And John P. Yost, Francis M. Clark, Loton R. De Wolf and Albert L. Grey, were introduced to the Conference, and addressed by the Bishop. Their examinations were reported, and they were received an trial.
EDUCATION. --The report of the committee on Education was read: Prof. C. M. Ellenwood was introduced and on invitation addressed the Conference and gave the report of the treasurer of the Board of Trustees of Nebraska Wesleyan University, and the report was adopted and it was ordered published in the minutes. (See reports.)
VISITOR. -- Rev. Dr. J. O. Peck, one of the corresponding secretaries of the Missionary Society was introduced.
QUESTION 34 was taken up: "Where shall the next Conference be held?," On nomination of D. K. Tindall, Seward St. Church, Omaha, was chosen.
BIBLE IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS. -- The following resolution offered by H. D. Brown, was adopted.
Whereas, An objection has been brought against the reading of the Bible in our public schools and in many places it is banished entirely from them; therefore,
Resolved, That we are profoundly impressed with

MINUTES OF NORTH NEBRASKA CONFERENCE. the importance of reading some portion of God's word each day in all the schools of the land, and we earnestly request those who are in charge to see to it that the Bible, according to King James' translation, or the revised verision (sic) shall be present in the schools as an authorative book on morals, and that it shall be read without note or comment. On motion of J. B. Maxfield, the Bishop was requested to appoint J. W. Shank, the editor of the Omaha Christian Advocate.
On motion of J. E. Moore, the Bishop was requested to appoint Geo. W. Martin, Chaplain of the State Industrial School at Kearney.REPORTS. -- The following reports were read and adopted: Bible Cause, Church Extension, State of the Church, Tracts, Sabbath Observance, Epworth League., Camp Meeting, Hospital and Deaconess Home, Auditing, Statistical and Treasurer. (See reports.)
FINANCIAL AGENT. -- On nomination of the committee on Education, the Bishop was requested to appoint J. W. Jennings, financial agent of the Nebraska Wesleyan University.
On nomination of A. Hodgetts, D. C. Winship was elected delegate to the International Christian Conference to be held in Chicago, and W. H. H. Pillsbury was elected alternate.
On motion of J. W. Shank, a committee on Missionary Society was appointed, consisting of the following: Wm. Gorst, W. H. H. Pillsbury, J. H. Brooks and J. W. Shank.

On motion of J. W. Shank it was ordered that we meet at 7:30 Monday morning.
The Bishop appointed J. W. Robinson to preside at the memorial service at 2:30 p. m. on Sunday.
W. K. Beans was appointed to conduct the devotional services on Monday morning.
Announcements were made and Conference was dismissed with singing the doxology, and Dr. Peck pronounced the benediction.
Fifth Day.
SUNDAY.Conference met at the. Congregational church at 2:30 p. m. with J. W. Robinson in the chair.
The scripture lesson was read by N. A. Martin and H. L. Powers led in prayer.
A memoir of Nathan L. Guthrie was read by J. W. Miller, (see memoir,) and short addresses were given by J. W. Miller, A. Hodgetts, J. W. Robinson and Bishop Walden.
The Bishop then took the chair. Elmer E. Hosman, Frank A. High, Francis M. Clark and Henry H. St. Louis elected to Deacon's orders, and James H. Wilcox, Walter H. La Vake and Norman A. Martin elected to Elder's orders, were called forward and by the Secretary presented to the Bishop for ordination. They were addressed by the Bishop, after which they were ordained. The Bishop was assisted in the service of ordination of Deacons by Rev. J. J. Parker, pastor of the Congregational church and Rev. F. E. Hudson, pastor of the Baptist church, and in the ordination of Elders, by the presiding elders and by J. W. Jennings, pastor of our church at Norfolk.
Services closed with benediction by J. J. Parker.
