Have had no initiation the past year, but are planning one for June of this year. A small attendance at meetings but the best financial council in the District. The small attendance is due to the fact that they are so largely scattered. Meet the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month.

Had one initiation the past year and will have one this year. Meet every Thursday night except in the summer time. Have a nice building all paid for. Have organized with success sub-councils at Emmet, Atkinson and Stewart. Good attendance at all the meetings and very active council.
Fraternally yours,

District Deputy.
Report of District No. 11
District Number 11 comprises the Councils of Broken Bow No. 2388, St. Patrick's Council No. 1211, North Platte, and Lexington No. 2040.
Broken Bow Council represents our Order in the large territory known as Custer County. With people of our Faith greatly in the minority and with villages and parishes widely scattered this Council is doing a real pioneer work for the 'Knights of Columbus. During the recent construction and dedication of the new church at Broken Bow the Knights played conspicuous part in giving their moral and financial support, with this very essential work the Council is now directing their energies to Council activities and while they suffered a loss of eleven since the last report a class is now ready to be initiated in the fore part of June.
St. Patrick's Council, North Platte has a total membership of 344,

134 ins, and 210 associate. St, Patrick's Council is comfortably situated in the thriving city of North Platte. It is one of the older Councils of the State and a real pioneer of Western Nebraska. This Council has accomplished many note worthy achievements for the membership of the Order. Some years ago a few enterprisng (sic) members induced the Council to purchase a city lot, upon which a short time later a new building was erected. In this the Council established permanent quarters and through efficient management the Council now owns a property conservatively estimated at $75,000.00 with but a very small indebtedness which leaves most of the rentals to be used in caring for the comforts and entertainment the members and like most homes of this kind it is the Catholic social center in North Platte.
A class initiation will be held in the early fall.
Lexington Council reports a membership of 115, 55 ins., and 60 associate. This Council has been especially active in attendance and interest in Council meetings, parish social affairs and the welfare of its members. This Council has been in need of adequate facilities to care for the welfare of the members and the social needs of their families. This will now be fully taken care of as the contracts have been let for the immediate construction of a new building costing approxmately (sic) $20,000.00. This will not only, serve as a stimulus to the interest of each and every member of the Council, but will serve as a Catholic social center which is needed in every community, but it also establishes the Knights of Columbus standing as an added asset to the community.
Respectfully Submitted,
ALBERT A. KJAR,
District Deputy.
At this time Brother J. J. Bogan and Dr. Leonard of Columbus distributed among the delegates literature of the order on the insurance feature and correspondence schools.
State Advocate John Gross, reporting for the Committee on By-Laws, read the revised by-laws, which on motion were adopted.
State Advocate John Gross read the following resolution of Sidney Council, which was presented by the Committee on By-Laws without recommendation:
Resolutions
Adopted by Sidney Council No. 1861,
Knights of Columbus, Sidney, Nebr.
Whereas, there is insistent and, seemingly to us, meritorious complaint against special assessments and the expense of a state convention every year is large, and, in the judgment of many Knights of Columbus, there is no real necessity of having a state convention every year, and as it would materially lessen the expense and reduce the assessments therefor by half to have state conventions biennially; and if there should be subjects on which the vote of the various councils in the state may be required, such vote may be had by referendum by mail.
Resolved, that it is the sense of said council that its delegates to the State Convention for the year 1926, soon to convene, present this resolution at said convention, and in the interest of sensible economy

and the general good of the order, urge that state conventions be held biennially.
Supreme Director Francis P. Matthews stated that to bring the matter before the convention for discussion and action, he moved to adopt the resolution and make suitable recommendation to the Supreme Council. After a long discussion a substitute motion to table by Brother Tomek of David City prevailed.
On motion of Brother Griffin of Omaha, it was voted that Sidney Council be thanked for bringing before the convention a subject that is at least debatable. (Laughter.)
The report of the Committee on Audit was read and adopted as follows:
Report of Committee on Audit
May 10, 1926.
Officers and Members of Nebraska State Council, Knights of Columbus:
We, your Committee on Audit, beg leave to report that we have checked the report of your secretary and treasurer and found same to be correct.
W. H. LAUGHLIN, B. G. BAUMAN, E. L. VOGELTANZ. |
Brother Geo. Laughlin submitted the following report of the Committee on Mileage and per diem, which on motion of Brother Dugan of Chadron was adopted:

The Convention adjourned at 12 o'clock noon.
FOURTH SESSION
The State Council convened at 1:30 p. m. with State Deputy Whelan in the chair. After the password was taken up, Rev. Father Link offered prayer. Supreme Director Francis P. Matthews submitted a report of the Committee on Publication of Minutes, which was adopted on motion.
Worthy State Deputy and Members of the Nebraska State Council:
On behalf of the Committee appointed to complete the publication
KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS OF NEBRASKA
|
531
|
of the minutes of the first twenty-one State Council meetings of Nebraska, in one, volume, it is respectfully reported that all preliminary work in connection with the publication of this volume is about complete.
The minutes of the State Council meeting of each year since 1901 have been secured and are complete, with the exception of the report of State Deputy C. J. Smyth, as delivered to the State Council meeting in 1908. The Committee hesitated to publish the minutes without making every possible effort to secure this missing State Deputy's report. As yet, we have been unable to obtain that document, but we have prospects of being able to locate it in the near future.
We are confident that within the next ninety days the book will be completed, published, and ready for distribution.
In view of the fact that the present State Convention will be adjourned and the record of the minutes of this meeting will be available in sufficient time to be included in this book, we believe that it would be well to include the minutes of this meeting in this bound volume, so that they may be preserved along with the minutes of prior State Council meetings.
Accordingly, in order to make formal provision for the completion of this work and to carry out the idea just suggested, the Committee recommends that the present Committee be continued to complete the publication of the work, and that the minutes of this State Council meeting he published in the hook along with the minutes of the previous State Council meetings.
FRANCIS P. MATTHEWS, Chairman. E. C. ZIMMERER. |
In order to carry out the foregoing recommendation, I move that the report of the Committee be accepted; that the Committee be continued to complete the publication of the book of minutes of the previous State Council meetings, and that the minutes of the meeting of the State Council for 1926 be included and published.
FRANCIS P. MATTHEWS.
Above motion seconded and unanimously adopted.
The following letter from Frank M. Colfer was read:
May 10, 1926.
Mr. William M. Whelan, State Deputy, Knights of Columbus, Columbus, Nebraska.
Dear Will:
It will be impossible for me to attend the state council at Columbus this year. Both Ed Lamber and myself have just completed a strenuous two weeks' service in the Davis murder case, which resulted in a disagreement of the jury on Saturday night. I am not able to forward my report as district deputy for the reason that the various councils have not made their reports to me. However, kindly advise the state secretary that I will secure the data, make the report and forward to him for his records.
I hope your meeting will be a very happy and satisfactory one.

PROCEEDINGS OF ANNUAL COUNCIL MEETINGS

Kindly convey my sincerest respects and regards to all of my friends present and tell them how I regret my inability to be with them.
Fraternally yours,
FMC: AMG FRANK M. COLFER.
The State Secretary read the report of the Committee on Retreat, following which Acting Chaplin (sic) Rev. Anton Link addressed the convention at length on the subject of the retreat. On motion of Brother Wm. Laughlin of Grand Island, the report was adopted and it was voted that in view of the possibility of holding two retreats, one at Sidney as well as one at Hastings, that $150 be appropriated for the use of the retreat committee.
Fourth Annual Laymen's Retreat
The Fourth Annual Laymen's Retreat, under the auspices of the State Council, was held early this year in connection with the state meeting at the Immaculate Conception Academy on May 30, 31, and ended on the morning of June 1.
