BIERER-BERRY FAMILY

Continued from July, 1927.

GEORGE WASHINGTON BERRY (BIERER) (Samuel4, David3, John2 John1) was born June 26, 1868, in Eagle township, Hancock county, Ohio. Died in Casey, Ill, January 12, 1911. Buried in Cherry Valley Cemetery, Hartwick township, Osceola county, Michigan. Farmer and oil well pumper by occupation. Removed from Wood county, Ohio, to Osceola county, Michigan, July, 1901. In the fall of 1903 he suffered an attack of typhoid fever which left him in a weakened condition, and so thereafter he went winters to work in the oil fields in Indiana and Illinois and was in Illinois at the time of his death. The name in this case came to be entirely used as Berry since the father died when he was less than two years of age, and due to the similarity of pronounciation in the name Bierer, (pronounced as though spelled Beer-y) and Berry, others took the line of the least resistance and called him Berry with the result that the similarity of pronounciation in the name Bierer, (pronoune- (sic) when he grew up he spelled his name the way others called him. Thus it has been Berry since. He married Orrie Ellen Richard, daughter of Franklin L. and Julia Ann (Weaver) Richard of Bloom township, Wood county, Ohio, and they were the parents of the following children:

 1

FRANK L. BERRY, born December 21,1889.
