New Kent County lies between the York and the James rivers In that part of Virginia first settled by the English. Descendants of its first settlers have spread to nearly every part of our country. New Kent is a difficult county for the genealogist, because the court house was completely destroyed by fire about 1870. This book contains the federal census 1810, the federal census 1850, and the genealogical data found in the applications for pensions on account of service in the Revolution. A census report is especially important, for it gives a summary of all the families in the county. Those who are Interested in this county will find it cheaper to buy the book, than to secure the records through a research genealogist. Every encouragement should be given to the multiplication of such volumes.
The Descendants of Peter Porter an Emigrant of 1621. By William Arthur Porter. M. A., Minneapolis, Minn., 1937. 138 pages + appendix and index. Price, $2.50.
This volume records some of the descendants of Peter' Porter, who settled in Virginia in 1621 and removed to Maryland about 1650, chiefly the descendants of his great- great-grandsons, Peter Porter of Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and Adam Porter of Augusta County, Virginia. The greater part of the data used in the book was secured by correspondence with descendants and much of it is not a matter of public record. Some of the documents on which the earlier part of this genealogy is based are included in the appendix. Those interested in Porter lines should not neglect to consult this book.

Israel Tuthill (no dates) mar. a Thompson and
removed from Mercer Co. Penna. to Nebraska around 1890. He was
probably a descendant of Israel Tuthill who, in 1804, had land
surveyed to him at Sandy Creek, Mercer Co. Pa. Members of this
family remained in Sandy Creek for many years. Would like to get
in touch with descendants of this family and to receive
information as to their origin which is said to have been in New
Jersey.
