The following pages, marked Otoe Precinct in the manuscript, obviously did not belong to that precinct. Careful examination showed that they were the last pages of Wyoming Precinct. In the manuscript these pages follow Hendricks Precinct and are just before Otoe Precinct. Manuscript numbering of the pages of Wyoming Precinct are continued. Rev. Henry White died at the home of his son-in-law, Benjamin Peters, New Castle, Delaware, October 17, 1856. He was the oldest member of the Philadelphia Conference, which he joined in 1803. He had been the pastor of various Methodist churches in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware, and was for many years a merchant at Snow Hill, Worchester, Maryland. He was born in Accomac, Virginia, September 17, 1777. - New York Christian Advocate, 1856 Nov. 13, p. 184. See also Minutes of the M. E. Conferences, 1856-57, pp. 215-17.
The Cortelyou Genealogy. By John Van Zandt Cortelyou, Lincoln, Neb. Press of Brown Printing Service, Lincoln, Neb. 520 pp. & Index 87 pp. Price $5.00.
This is a record of many of the descendants of Jaques Corteljou of New Utrecht, Long Island, who came to America in 1652. The author, who had thorough training in historical research both in America and Europe, has made an exhaustive study of the documents dealing with the early history of the family. The work is of interest from a historical and sociological point of view, since there is much material dealing with the customs and institutions of the colonial and early national period of America. It may be read with pleasure even by those having no particular interest in the family. It is scholarly, well documented and contains many excerpts from the original records. The families of some of the daughters are carried on for several generations. A few of the families on which there is much material are Barkeloo, Beatty, Garretson, Stillwell, Stults, Van Brunt, and Van Voorhees. This genealogy is a decided bargain and is heartily recommended to libraries having a genealogical shelf.
