W. H. JENNINGS.

      William Henry Jennings, Senator from the Twenty-third District, composed of Jefferson and Thayer counties, was born in Ohio, February 14, 1845. When in his youth his parents removed to Louis county, Iowa, where he received his early education in the public schools. His early days were passed mainly at work on his father's farm. Upon the breaking out of the Civil War, he enlisted in Co. C, 11th Iowa Infantry, and was in Crockers's famous Iowa Brigade. After returning from the war he engaged in the mercantile business in Dallas county, Iowa, in which he continued for thirteen years. In 1885 he removed to Davenport, Nebraska, where for the past eighteen years he has been engaged in the banking business. His politics are Republican and this is his first term in the State Legislature. In 1871 he was married to Ruth A. Clayton, born in Salem, Indiana, and has a family consisting of three sons and four daughters.

CHARLES MARSHALL.

      Charles Marshall, Senator from the Third District, Otoe county, is a native of England, born September 8, 1854. He came to Nebraska when he was eighteen years of age and settled in Otoe county. He took up the study of law and, in 1887, was admitted to the bar by the District Court of Otoe county. He nerved as a member of the School Board of Douglas, Nebraska, for a number of years, and also as chairman of the Village Board. In 1901, he served in the lower house of the State Legislature. His business career has been a successful one. For some years he has been engaged in the banking business, is the cashier of the Bank of Douglas in his home town and is president of the Bank of Panama. He takes active interest in secret and fraternal society affairs and has been the Master of the Masonic Lodge of Douglas and is a charter member of two camps of the Modern Woodmen, in both of which he served as presiding officer. One mile from the town of Douglas, he owns a farm, which is stocked with fine Percheron horses and Shorthorn cattle. He is a Republican.

      Senator Marshall was married in 1876, to Miss Ellen J. Hollister, and has two sons.

G. W. MEREDITH.

     Dr. G. W. Meredith, Senator from the Fifth District, composed of Saunders and Sarpy counties, was born in Bloomingsburg, Folton county, Indiana, July 11, 1851. He graduated in medicine from the medical department of the State University of Indiana, March 28, 1873. He commenced the practice of his profession in Union Mill, in his native state, where he remained until October, 1882, whence located at Ashland, Saunders county, which place has since been his home and where he has been in the active practice of medicine and surgery. Dr. Meredith is a Democrat and served in the 27th Session, was re-elected for the 28th Session, both times receiving the endorsement of the Democrats and the Peoples' Independent party. While he has always taken an active part in state and county politics, he never held office prior to his election to the Senate in 1900. He is a firm believer in right of sovereignty of the people as it pertains to self-government. Dr. Meredith is married and has a family of seven children, two sons and five daughters.
