CHARLES I. NORRIS.

      Charles I. Norris, Senator from the First District, composed of Richardson and Pawnee counties, is one of the native-born members of the Senate, his birth-place being Falls City, where he was born December 30, 1860, the son of Nebraska pioneer parents. He received his education in the public schools and the High school of his native town. His first business experience was as a clerk for the Missoula Mercantile Co., at Missoula, Montana, where he was employed for four years. Returning to Nebraska, he engaged in the general merchandise business at Table Rock, which he has continuously followed up to the present.

      Senator Norris has never before held any office, though he has been an ardent worker in the ranks of the Republican party. He was married November 10, 1887, to Miss Sarah Phillips, and has one son and a daughter.

RICHARD O'NEILL.

     Richard O'Neill, Senator from the Twentieth District, Lancaster county, was born in Ontario, Canada, February 7, 1854. He came to Nebraska in 1873, and for some time was located at Omaha. In 1885 he removed to Lincoln and engaged in the retail jewelry business, in which he has since continued. Senator O'Neill has always taken at active part in public affairs and is recognized as one of the leading secret society men of Nebraska, particularly in the Knights of Pythias, of which order, in 1887, he was elected Grand Chancellor, and for the past twelve years he has been the Supreme Representative of the Pythian order in Nebraska., Mr. O'Neill has always been active in local politics. and in 1900 was elected to the State Senate, and in 1902 was one of two members--the other being Meredith of the Fifth District--who were reelected to succeed themselves. Daring the Twenty-eighth session Senator O'Neill was chairman of the Committee on University and Normal Schools and a member of the Finance, Ways and Means, Insurance, Military Affairs and Mines and Mining committees. He has always been worker in the Republican ranks. In 1887 he was married to Miss Anna N. Vanderpool, who died in April, 1901. His family consists of two sons.

L. M. PEMBERTON.

     Leander M. Pemberton, Senator from the Twenty-first District, Gage county, was born in Edgar county, Illinois, November 12, 1845. When a child he removed to Hamilton county, Iowa. He received his education in the common schools and the State University of Iowa. He studied law and was admitted to the bar in Iowa in 1870. From January I, t872, to January. 1878, he was auditor of Clay county. Iowa, and in the fall of 1879 he removed to Nebraska and located at Beatrice, which is his home. For six years he served as city attorney of Beatrice, and since 1892 has been a member of the Board of Education of that city, having been president of such Board for six years and secretary one year. He has been one of the directors of the Beatrice Free Public Library since its organization in 1893. Senator Pemberton was married at Spencer, Iowa, April 10, 1879, to Miss Ida M. Harris, and has five children, two sons and three daughters. He is one of the leading attorneys of the bar of southeastern Nebraska.
