Frederick William Andersen

Born at Fremont, Nebraska, March 18, 1882, Frederick William Andersen is the son of Hans and Elese Jacobenne (Jorgensen) Andersen. His father, born in Sillin, Denmark, January 29, 1843, and who died at Cozad, Nebraska, April 16, 1928, was the first farmer to introduce and grow alfalfa in Dawson County; he came to America in 1873. His mother was born in Lollin, Denmark, July 31, 1851.

Mr. Andersen worked as a clerk in Helmers & Jensens general store at Cozad, for a year, 1906-07, and a few years later bought out both partners. He is now president of Andersen's Department Store, is a stockholder in the Farmers Elevator Company and the Co-operative Oil Company, is vice president of the Cozad Mutual Telephone Company, and is active in civic and political affairs.

A Democrat, he served as city councilman 1916-24, was a member of the State Board of Education from 1928 to 1930, and is now secretary of the latter board. He is the author of The Miracle Merchant, published in 1925. In 1918 he became a life member of the Red Cross, and since 1928 has been chairman of the City Park Commission. He is president of the Cozad Volunteer Fire Department, is a director of the Chamber of Commerce and the Federation of Retailers, and holds membership in the Nebraskana Society. He has been selected as one of Nebraska's citizens to be represented in the 1932 edition of Who's Who in Government. In 1932 he was chosen a Master Merchant of Nebraska, receiving a medal at Lincoln on May 12, 1932.

Mr. Andersen is affiliated with the First Methodist Episcopal Church of Cozad, is a Mason, Shriner and Odd Fellow, and since 1921 has been civic chairman of the Cozad Cemetery Association.

He was united in marriage with Cora May Wallace, at Cozad, June 19, 1907. Mrs. Andersen, who is the daughter of Lieutenant Theobald Scheibel, was born at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, October 30, 1881. Two children were born to the marriage: Mary Ann, born July 10, 1910, who died July 11, 1910; and Berniece May, born May 29, 1915. Residence: Cozad. (Photograph on Page 29).


Leonard Clarence Andersen

Leonard Clarence Andersen, farm implement dealer and funeral director, was born at Norman, Nebraska, October 24, 1894, son of Anton Marius and Thilda (Olsen) Andersen.

The father, born in Denmark, February 15, 1859, was a farmer and merchant in Nebraska for many years prior to his death at Norman, October 29, 1929. His wife, Thilda, was born in Sweden, September 29, 1854. She resides at Norman.

Mr. Andersen attended country school, and has been in business at Norman almost ever since. He was married to Ruth Hildur Bergsten at Minden, on September 10, 1919, and to them two children were born, Eugene Euclid, born August 11, 1920, and Ivan Dale, born September 3, 1923.

On August 3, 1931, Mr. Andersen was granted a funeral director's license. He served as a private in Company C, 309th Ammunition Train, 84th Division, in the World War. Residence: Norman.


Albert Wilfred Anderson

Albert Wilfred Anderson, physician and surgeon, was born at Callaway, Nebraska, May 6, 1893, and has been a life resident of Nebraska. He is the son of Nels N. and Clara Louise (Bjork) Anderson, both natives of Sweden. Nels Anderson, who is now a retired farmer, was born October 31, 1858, and his wife, Clara, was born April 14, 1856.

Upon his graduation from Benson High School in 1913, Dr. Anderson entered Creighton University, from which he received his degree of Doctor of Medicine in 1918. Since that time he has been engaged in general practice.

He was united in marriage to Lillie May Hultman at Oakland, Nebraska, August 8, 1918. Mrs. Anderson, who is of Swedish descent, was born in Essex County, Iowa, February 21, 1885.

Dr. Anderson is a member of the American and Nebraska State Medical Associations, and is a life member of the Interstate Postgraduate Association. His religious affiliation is with Grace Lutheran Church, and he is a member also of the Chamber of Commerce and the local Red Cross. Dr. Anderson enjoys hunting and fishing, but his hobby is trap shooting. Residence: West Point.


Alfred Theodore Anderson

Alfred Theodore Anderson, son of August and Ingar (Timmansdotter) Anderson, was born in Skane, Sweden, July 17, 1865, and came to Kearney, at the age of ten.

His father, born in Sweden, August 24, 1841, was a dairyman there, and after coming to America engaged in wagon making and farming. He died at Liberal, Kansas, in October, 1919. His mother, born in Sweden, February 17, 1840, died at Kearney, August 23, 1819.

Mr. Anderson attended the public schools of Kearney, denominational school in Minneapolis, and took special courses in photography. He came to America at the age of two, lived in Knoxville, Galesburg, and Woodhull, Illinois, until 1875, and has since been a resident of Kearney.

Since 1886, Mr. Anderson has operated The Anderson Studio. Prior thereto he was associated with Mr. J. A. Stridborg in the photographic business. During 1924-25, he spent a year traveling and taking photographs in Northwestern Spain. Mr. Anderson is a member of the Photographers' International Association of America. His hobby is cabinet making and the invention and construction of photographic apparatus.

His marriage to Alma Matilda Wickstrom was solemnized in Phelps County, September 11, 1592, and to them three children were born: Ruth, born September 8, 1593; Miriam, born August 17, 1895; and Elizabeth, born November 30, 1913. Miriam is married to Montague H. Worlock; both Miriam and Ruth are photographers, while Elizabeth is a student at Barnard College in New York City.

Mr. Anderson is a Republican. He is a member of the First Baptist Church, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Nebraskana Society. He is a trustee of his church, and during 1907-08, was secretary of the Nebraska State Photographers' Association. From 1906-11, he served on the Kearney School Board. Beginning his career as a photographer at the age of 16, Mr. Anderson recently celebrated his fiftieth anniversary in the business. Residence: Kearney.


Andreas Theodore Anderson

Andreas Theodore Anderson was born at Gelballe, Skanderup, Denmark, July 19, 1885, and came to Nebraska, January 22, 1904, settling in Gordon where he went into the blacksmithing business. He is the son of Andreas and Margrethe Andersen, the former born in Egholt, Denmark, April 9, 1845, and died at Gelballe, Denmark, September 23, 1917. His mother was born in Gesten, Denmark, April 23, 1850, and died at Gelballe, Skanderup, Denmark, December 19, 1931.

From the age of five until the age of 14, Mr. Andersen attended school and on October 1, 1899, was confirmed in the Lutheran Church at Skanderup. Mr. Anderson's grandfather and father were both blacksmiths in Denmark as were his two brothers. In 1914 and 1924 he returned to Denmark for visits. He started in the blacksmithing business for himself at Gordon, Nebraska,
