Catholic Church, the American War Mothers, of which she is past state president, the Womens Benefit Association, of which she was president several years, the Women's Relief Corps, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Women's Christian Temperance Union (past president), and the Brady Woman's Club.

Seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. McCullough, Mary Francis, born March 14, 1898, who is a graduate of St. Joseph's Hospital of Omaha. She took post-graduate work at the Laurentian Sanitarium, Ste. Agathe des Monts, Province of Quebec, and at Creighton University of Omaha. At the present time she is superintendent of the Platte Valley Hospital of North Platte.

John Jeremiah, the second child, was born February 10, 1900, and died August 20, 1929. He was a graduate of the Brady High School and enlisted and took training in the Reserve Officers Training School. James Donald, third child, was born February 27, 1902, and attended Creighton University. At the present time he is assistant cashier in the bank of Brady. Miles William, born November 18, 1903, completed an agricultural course at the University of Nebraska, and at the present time is general manager of his father's ranch. Maurine Annie, born May 17, 1905, completed a four year course at Mary Mount College, Sauna, Kansas and the University of Nebraska. Maurine taught two years after receiving her Bachelor of Science degree and is now married. Miriam Ellen took one year post-graduate work after her graduation, two years at the University of Nebraska and one term at Kearney Normal. She is now employed by the Platte Valley Hospital. Doris June, born June 29, 1909, took one year postgraduate work after her graduation and taught four terms in rural schools. She attended summer school at Kearney and later took nurses training at Michigan City, Indiana. She is now employed by the Platte Valley Hospital.

Mr. McCullough is affiliated with the Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Brady, and is a member of the Knights of Columbus. He is also a member of the Red Cross and the Nebraskana Society. Residence: Brady. (Photograph in Album).


Theodore Wilson McCullough

A resident of Nebraska since February, 1889, Theodore Wilson McCullough was born at Kirksville, Iowa, September 26, 1861. He is the son of Samuel Clinton and Abigail Anne (Wilson) McCullough, the former a physician and surgeon, born at Morgan's Station, Kentucky, June 9, 1816. His father's father was born in Virginia, and his mother's father in Pennsylvania, and both served under General Washington.

Abigail Wilson was born at Callansburg, Pennsylvania, October 30, 1833, and died at Seattle, Washington, December 18, 1908. She was a teacher, whose Scotch-Irish Great-Great grandfather came to America in 1735, and was murdered by the Hessians at Trenton, January 2, 1777.

Mr. McCullough attended public school at Ottumwa, Iowa, and received his higher education under private tutelage. In 1889, he was city editor of the Omaha Herald, and in 1890 became night editor of the World Herald. In 1891, he became night editor of the Omaha Bee, and in 1897, city editor. In 1900, he was promoted to assistant managing editor, in 1906, to managing editor, in 1917, to associate editor, and to chief editorial writer in 1920, which position he still holds.

His marriage to Alice May Shaw was solemnized at Galesburg, Illinois, September 26, 1888. Mrs. McCullough was born in Knox County, Illinois, March 11, 1866, of English descent on the paternal side, and French Huguenot descent on the maternal side. They have three children, Alice, born September 7, 1889, who married Hubert Keyes Owen, was a Phi Beta Kappa at the University of Nebraska; Roger Shaw, born October 19, 1891, married Rosemarie Dalton. He received his B. Sc. from the University of Nebraska, and is a captain in the Air Service; Phillip Morgan, born October 31, 1893, married Mary Hustead. He is a graduate in electrical engineering of the University of Nebraska and a member of the American Institute.

Mr. McCullough is a Republican. For many years be was a member of the Nebraska National Guard, in which he held the rank of lieutenant colonel. For four years he served as a member of the Nebraska Park Board, and during the World War was a member of the Excess Profits Tax Board at Washington. He is a director of the Omaha Welfare Association and a member of the Community Chest. He holds membership in the Concord Club and the American Academy of Social and Political Science. He is a Mason and member of the Shrine, a Knight of Pythias, and a member of the Modern Woodmen of America and the Royal Arcanum. His club is the Omaha Athletic. His hobby is forestry. Walter William McCutchan

Walter William McCutchan, stockraiser and farmer of Nuckolls County, Nebraska, has lived in this state for 53 years. He was born at Evansville, Indiana, June 19, 1871, the son of Paul Reuben and Canlne Amanda (Johnston) McCutchan.

Paul Reuben McCutchan is the son of George Bond and Amelia (Yerkes) McCutchan who was descended from the McCutchans who landed in New York in 1812 from England and later emigrated to Indiana settling at what is now known as McCutchanville, Indiana; he died at Evansville in 1884, and his wife, Amelia, died in 1893. Mr. Paul McCutchan, who was a lawyer, was born at Evansville, August 8, 1838, coming to Nebraska in 1878, taking a homestead near Grand Island; his ancestry was Scotch-Irish and Pennsylvania Dutch. He enlisted in the Civil War August 10, 1861, Company A, 42nd Regular Indiana Infantry under command of the army of the Cumberland and met the enemy under General Bragg, September 19, 1863, at which time he was in the 14th Corps of General George H. Thomas, commander. He was wounded the following Sunday by a bullet striking him in the left hip and was taken captive and held in the Military Prison at Atlanta Georgia until he was exchanged at Rossville, Georgia, February 20, 1864. He carried this bullet in his hip until his death which occurred at Grand Island, Nebraska, October 10, 1917. Carline Amanda (Johnston) McCutchan was born at Evansville, September 28, 1839, and died at Nelson, March 31, 1925; she was of English and Irish descent.

Mr. McCutchan attended elementary school in Nebraska and was a student at Grand Island Business College for two years. For 15 years he was a teacher in the public schools, and since then has been engaged in stockraising and farming near Nelson. He is president of the Farmer Union Elevator Company of Nelson, and is now serving as county commissioner of Nuckolls County. He is affiliated with the Methodist Church, is a member of the Nebraskana Society, and holds membership in the Masonic Lodge.

His marriage to Alice Mary England was solemnized at Grand Island, December 27, 1892. Mrs. McCutchan, whose ancestry is Irish, was born at Eldenburg, Indiana, January 20, 1872. They have the following children, Irvin, born January 22, 1894, who married Isa Harris; Gertrude, born February 7, 1895, who married Field McPherren; Mary, born March 15, 1899, who married James Murphy; Alice, born January 2, 1900, who married Marice Vinning; Walter, born June 20, 1902, who married Audrey Demilt; Blanche, born June 24, 1910. Oscar Wiley McDaniel

Oscar Wiley McDaniel, county judge of Cherry County, was born in Radford, Virginia, April 15, 1866, and settled in Sarpy County, Nebraska, October 4, 1874.

burg, Virginia, May 19, 1837, and died at LaPlatte, Nebraska, January 5, 1912. A farmer and harness maker, he served as a private in the rebel army and fought in the battles of Lookout Mountain, Missionary Ridge, Bull Run, Chickamauga, Manassas Courthouse, and in several other battles of the Civil War. His father was Anthony McDaniel and his grandfather Bryant McDaniel.

Nancy Bradbury, wife of Jacob McDaniel, was born in Christiansburg, August 22, 1838. She was the daughter of Mark and Minerva (Dawson) Bradbury. Her grandfather, Thomas Dawson, was a soldier in the war of the Revolution and the War of 1812, and died at the beginning of the Civil War. Nancy Bradbury died at LaPlatte, Nebraska, March 20, 1880.

Upon the completion of his early education in the district school of LaPlatte, Judge McDaniel entered Bellevue College but did not graduate. He was a farmer and rancher, later a school teacher, and still later a hardware and lumber dealer. A Democrat, he has twice been elected county judge of Cherry County on a nonpolitical ballot and is candidate for re-election in 1932. He is a member of the firm Lausen & McDaniel, hardware, lumber, and furniture dealers at Wood Lake, and has served in various village and city offices.

On February 13, 1889, he was married to Mary Emily Rockwell at Wood Lake. Mrs. McDaniel, who was born at Toulon, Illinois, April 28, 1867, is the daughter of Seth and Hanna (Woodard) Rockwell. There are three children, Ethel Mae, born June 26, 1890, who was graduated from East Denver High School; Dwight Rockwell, born September 6, 1893, who was graduated from Lincoln High School, Wood Lake High School and is a veteran of the late war; and Ida Jeanette, born July 13, 1900, who was graduated from Wood Lake High School and Barnes Commercial School of Denver, Colorado, is secretary to her father.

Among Mr. McDaniel's fraternal organizations are the Woodmen of the World, the Ancient Order of United Workmen, the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, the Royal Arch Masons, and the Knights Templar. Robert McKee McDill

Robert M. McDill, head of the department of mathematics of Hastings College, was born at Richland, Indiana, March 25, 1872. He is the son of N. C. and Nancy (McKee) McDill, the former a clergyman with the degree of Doctor of Divinity.

Mr. McDill received his A. B. in 1894, and his A. M. in 1898 from Indiana University, and has taken postgraduate work at the University of Colorado. From 1895-1907 he taught mathematics at New Castle, Indiana, and from 1907-1919 at Fremont Normal College. Since that time he has been a member of the faculty at Hastings College. Professor McDill is the author of Exercises Introductory to Geometry and several papers on mathematical subjects.

On August 19, 1896, he was married to Korah Kester at Lebanon, Indiana, and to their union one son was born, Homer K., December 6, 1899. He is married to Louella Goble, and is principal of Benedict High School.

Professor McDill is a member and an elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Hastings, is a member of the Nebraska Academy of Science, the American Mathematical Association and the Schoolmasters' Club He is a life member of The Nebraskana Society, and a Republican. Residence: Hastings.


Alan McDonald

Alan McDonald, architect, was born at Omaha, Nebraska, August 26, 1891, son of John and Martha (Tibbetts) McDonald. The father is an architect.

Upon his graduation from Central High School, Mr. McDonald entered Harvard University, from which he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1912. He received the degree of Master in Architecture from Harvard University School of Architecture in 1915.

On September 11, 1917, he was married to Helen Scobie at Omaha.

He is a member of the First Unitarian Church, the Chamber of Commerce, the American Institute of Architects and the Community Playhouse. Residence: Omaha.


Guy Clinton McDonald

Guy C. McDonald was born at Camden, Minnesota, October 12, 1888, son of Clinton and Etta (Ward) McDoraId. Clinton McDonald, who was of Scotch ancestry, was a salesman and mechanic. Etta Ward, his wife, a native of Worcester, Massachusetts, died at Portland, Oregon, in 1898. She was descended from William Ward who settled in Massachusetts, in 1630.

Guy C. McDonald was educated in the public schools of Omaha, and attended Central High School. He entered the employ of Beebe and Runyan as office boy, and was promoted through various positions to credit manager in thirteen years. He then became associated with the Omaha Crockery Company, as credit manager and has advanced to the position of general manager, secretary-treasurer and director of that company.

He was married to Nellie May Perry at Chicago, September 10, 1910. Mrs. McDonald, who was born at Charter Oak, Iowa, May 10, 1891, is of English descent. They have two sons, William Ward, born November 11, 1918. and Guy, Jr., born July 22, 1922.

Mr. McDonald is active in civic affairs, and is a member of the Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary Club, Ak-Sar-Ben, and is chairman of the Merchants Market Week Committee. He belongs to the Washington Parent-Teachers' Association and The Nebraskana Society. He attends the First Methodist Church of Omaha. His clubs are the Omaha Field and Omaha Athletic Clubs. His favorite sport is golf, and he enjoys reading and motoring. Residence: Omaha.


James Beauregard McDonald

An outstanding figure in the professional world of Nebraska is James Beauregard McDonald who has lived in the state for nearly 50 years and has taken a prominent part in political and civic endeavor for many years. He was born at Chatham Hill, Virginia, September 22, 1861, the son of James Van Buren McDonald and Emiline Ann Ganaway.

His father, whose ancestry was Scotch, was born at Chatham Hill, November 30, 1833, and died at Pierce, Nebraska, September 30, 1915; he was a carpenter, and during the Civil War was a Confederate soldier. His mother was born of English parentage at Cripple Creek, Virginia, April 7, 1836, and died at Council Bluffs, Iowa, December 1, 1917.

Judge McDonald has been a leading citizen of Pierce for many years. A Democrat, he served as county clerk from 1908 to 1914, was postmaster from 1914 to 1923, and since 1926 has been county judge of Pierce County. He acted as deputy postmaster from 1893 to 1897 and from 1897 to 1908 was engaged in the lumber business at Pierce. He is a member of the Community Club, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and the Rebekah Lodge. During the World War he served as chairman of the county Council of Defense.

On July 9, 1902, he was united in marriage at Pierce with Jessie Kerr who was born at Glasgow, Scotland, February 10, 1877. Three children were born to them: Suza Katherine, March 7, 1904, who is a registered nurse; Robert, who died in infancy; and James Howard, September 1, 1915. Residence: Pierce.

Lewis Weitzel McDonald

Born at Centerville, Ohio, April 8, 1879, Lewis Weitzel McDonald is the son of William Wallace and Anna Mary (Parcell) McDonald, His father, who served as general foreman for the Chicago & Northwestern Railway Company for many years, was born at Kingston, Illinois, January 4, 1855, and died at Elgin, Illinois, November 22, 1925; his ancestry was Scotch. His mother, who was prominent in the Order of Eastern Star, Rebekah Lodge, and the Women's Relief Corps, was born of Scotch and Irish parents at Centerville, December 15, 1859, and died at Elgin, January 1, 1916. Mr. McDonald attended the high school at Troy Grove. Illinois, until 1894, and since then has been supervisory agent for the Chicago & Northwestern Railway Company at Long Pine, Nebraska. He is a Mason, was formerly president of the Chamber of Commerce and the local school board, holds membership in the Lions Club, and is a member of the Order of Eastern Star. A Republican, Mr. McDonald is now serving his third term as mayor of his community. He is affiliated with the Congregational Church, and holds membership in the Nebraskana Society. His chief recreations are fishing, reading, and baseball. On February 8, 1901, he was married to Bessie Marilla Clarke at Glen Ellyn, Illinois. Mrs. McDonald, who is descended directly from the Winthrop and Churchill families of Pilgrim days, was born at Beln Ellyn, April 1, 1884. They have one son, Charles Clarke, born November 15, 1901, who married Loretta Miller. He was graduated from Annapolis in 1923, and is now an instructor in the aviation school at Pensacola, Florida. Residence: Long Pine.


Milton Berlin McDowell

Milton Berlin McDowell, prominent physician and surgeon at Chadron, was born at Oil City, Pennsylvania, July 20, 1875, and came to Nebraska, in April, 1885. His father, Cyrus F. McDowell, was born in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, February 19, 1842, and died at Long Beach, California, August 3, 1929. He was a veteran of the Civil War, and at the time of his death, was a retired farmer. His wife, Ella Berlin, was born in Venango County, Pennsylvania, July 12, 1849, and is still living. Dr. McDowell attended country school of Sheridan County, and was graduated from Gordon High School. In 1902, he received his medical degree from the University of Nebraska, where he was a charter member of Iota Chapter of Phi Rho Sigma. In addition to his practice, Dr. McDonald is the owner of a large ranch. At the present time, he is serving as city physician of Chadron. He is a Republican. On February 12, 1908, he was married to Pearl A. Peacock at Hay Springs. Mrs. McDowell was born in Sheridan County, September 26, 1886. Mrs. McDowell is a member of the Eastern Star, Parent Teachers Association and the Does. She is the daughter of Frank and Zella (Dubbs) Peacock. Dr. and Mrs. McDowell are both members of the Congregational Church. They have two children, Cyrus, born September 6, 1909; and Betty, born March 2, 1916.

Among Dr. McDowell's civic and professional memberships are, the Nebraska State and Dawes County Medical Society, the Northwestern Nebraska Medical Society, of which he is now president, the Civic Relief Committee, the Chamber of Commerce, the Chadron Rotary Club, of which he is a charter member, the Masons, the Odd Fellows, and the Elks, of which he is exalted ruler. He is a member of the Chadron Country Club, enjoys hunting, fishing, and golf. His hobby is breeding hogs. Residence: Chadron.


Martin Slylvester (sic) McDuffee

Martin Sylvester McDuffee, son of G. N. and Ann (Layden) McDuffee, was born at Corning, Iowa, May 29, 1878, and since 1886 has resided in Nebraska.

His father was born at Rushville, Indiana, was a farmer and died at York, Nebraska in 1902. His mother was also born at Rushville. Both were of early American ancestry. Martin S. McDuffee attended public school, was a student at Fremont Normal College 1899-1903, and received his Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nebraska in 1906. He is a member of Theta Kappa Nu.

Upon his admission to the bar in June, 1906, Mr. McDuffee entered upon the active practice of his profession. From 1906 to 1912 he practiced at Madison, and from 1912 to 1923 served as county judge of Madison County, elected on the Democratic ticket. From 1923 until October, 1931, he was a member of the firm of McDuffee and Mapes at Norfolk. At the present time Judge McDuffee is engaged in practice alone.

He has been a member of the Board of Education since 1929, and at the present time is serving as its president. One of the organizers of the Carnegie Library, at Madison, he was active in all civilian projects during the World War period including Red Cross, Liberty loan drives, four minute speaking, etc.

He is a member and past president of the Kiwanis Club, served as president of the Chamber of Commerce in 1928, a member of the Madison County Historical Society, the Red Cross, Young Men's Christian Association and Boy Scouts. His professional memberships include the District, Nebraska State and American Bar Associations.

Judge McDuffee is affiliated with the First Presbyterian Church, is a Scottish Rite Mason and Knight Templar, and a life member of the Nebraskana Society. His social club is the Norfolk Country Club.

Of his marriage to Ida Belle Knoll there is one daughter, Ruth, born July 28, 1915. Mrs. McDuffee was born at Crete, on January 19, 1881, the daughter of A. L. and Mina (Young) Knoll. She is a graduate of Doane College, and before her marriage was a high school teacher and principal of the Madison High School for five years. She is a member of the Library board, past president of the Young Women's Christian Association, Madison, Norfolk, and Madison County Women's Clubs, and at present is president of the Women's Club for the third district. Residence: Norfolk.


Adelaide May McEachen

Adeliade May McEachen, clubwoman, was born in. Cuming County, Nebraska, May 28, 1871, daughter of David Williams and Isabella (Gilmore) Burke. Her father, David W. Burke, was born in Perth, Ontario, Canada, September 15, 1838, and homesteaded in Nebraska in 1869. He was a teacher and member of the school board, commissioner of Cuming County and member of the Nebraska legislature. He died at Bancroft, Nebraska, August 14, 1911. Isabella, wife of David, was born at Almonte, Ontario, October 18, 1839, and died in Cuming County, October 15, 1882. She was of Scotch and her husband was of Irish descent.

Mrs. McEachen attended district school No. 21, which was located on part of her family homestead, and completed her education in June 1885. On June first of the following year she was married to Robert Allen McEachen, at Sioux City, Iowa. Mr. McEachen was born in Lanark County, Ontario, June 20, 1855, and was an outstanding farmer, of Scotch descent. His death occurred at Wayne on July 7, 1915. To their marriage the following children were born: George Allen, born in Cuming County, July 10, 1888, married Leone Copple; Benjamin C., born February 28, 1890, at Omaha, married Hazel Andrews; Esther I., born at Omaha, September 30, 1892; James A., born in Cuming County, June 12,

1894, married Edna Pegler; William Robert, born in Cuming County, February 3, 1896; Gertrude E., born in Cuming County:, September 17, 1897; Howard D., born in Wayne County September 3, 1903, married Ada Bauman and Grant A,, born in Wayne County, July 9, 1905. Two daughters, Mabel, born March 16, 1900, and Alice, born March 4, 1902, died in infancy.

Mrs. McEachen is a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Red Cross, and the First Presbyterian Church of Wayne, as well as the Federated Women's Club and the Eastern Star. Residence: Wayne.


Clyde McElmoil

Clyde McElmoil was born in Elkhart, Indiana, July 4, 1880, the son of James Henry and Mary Ellen (Gemberling) McElmoil. His father, who was a farmer in Adams County, Nebraska, was born at New York City, April 28, 1851, and died at Long Beach, California, July 21, 1931; he was the son of Robert McElmoil, who was born in Glasgow, Scotland, and Jennie (Miller) McElmoil, who was a native of Londonderry, Ireland. His mother was born in Elkhart County, Indiana, December 6, 1858.

Mr. McElmoil was graduated from the Juniata High School in 1899, and was a student for a year at The University of Nebraska, where he was a member of the University Cadet Battalion. He began work in a drug store at Lincoln, Nebraska, in the spring of 1900 and in 1905 became a registered druggist. In 1908 he bought a drug store at Farnam and is still the owner and proprietor.

He is past president of the Farnam Commercial Club and was secretary of the local Red Cross. His hobby is touring by motor. On October 30, 1907, he was married at Callaway, Nebraska, to Mable Irene Decker who was born at Galva, Illinois, July 23, 1880, and died at Rochester, Minnesota, July 2, 1921. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Their son, Gordon Decker, was born December 25, 1912. In 1923 Mr. McElmoil married Mrs. Edith Hall at Wray, Colorado. William George McFall

William George McFall, a pioneer resident of Nebraska, has taken a prominent part in the progress of his community and county. He was born at Palmerston, Canada, October 23, 1870, the son of Archibald and Ellen Morrow McFall. His father, who was a farmer, was born at Montreal, Canada, June 29, 1839, and died at Elrnwood, Nebraska, January 9, 1926; his Scotch-Irish ancestors were natives of Canada. His mother, whose ancestry is English, was born at Montreal, Canada, October 1, 1837 and died at Elmwood, August 8, 1914.

Mr. McFall attended rural school in Cass County until 1890, and was a student at Cotner College, 1891-3, and at Lincoln Normal College, 1893-5. He taught school for four years, 1895-9, and has been a farmer and stockman near Brunswick, Nebraska, since that time, He is a member of the National Geographic Society, the Red Cross, Woodmen of the World, and Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He is a member and director of the Farmers Union, and is active in the interests of temperance education in Nebraska.

During the World War he served as a member of the council of defense and assisted in loan drives and military organizations. He is affiliated with the Brunswick Community Church and holds membership in the Nebraskana Society. His favorite sport is horseback riding, and his hobby is reading current magazines.

On January 1, 1900, he was married to Hattie Ella Rivett at Elmwood, Nebraska. Mrs. McFall, whose parents were born in England, was born at Unadilla, Nebraska, October 1, 1878. They have two children: Beatrice, born November 22, 1900, who married Fred Wilhelms; and Maurice, born October 19, 1902, who married Ruth Ann McFall. Beatrice, who is a teacher, received the A. B. degree from Cotner College. Maurice was graduated from the State Agricultural School and is now an agent for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. Residence: Brunswick.


Elmer Warner McFarland

Elmer Warner McFarland, son of Cyrus and Lucy Ann (Warner) McFarland, was born at McLean, Illinois, October 5, 1861. The father was born at Providence, Rhode Island, July 24, 1835, and died at Lincoln, February 8, 1923. The mother was born at Hartford, Connecticut, May 30, 1834, and died at Lincoln, April 1, 1927.

Mr. McFarland attended public and high school until 1879, and for a number of years has been senior member of the mercantile firm of McFarland & Sons. He served as state senator in 1929-30, elected on the Republican ticket. Mr. McFarland is a Mason.

On December 24, 1882, he was married to Olive Jane Place at Rantoul, Illinois. She was born near Madison, Indiana, December 30, 1860. Their children are as follows: May, born October 24, 1883, married Edd DeVore, and is now deceased; John Warner, born July 1, 1885; Lee Ray, born January 17, 1888, died August 8, 1898; Cyrus, born June 15, 1891; and Harry, born August 17, 1898. Residence: Ohiowa.


William Irvin McFarland

Born at Falls City, Nebraska, January 14, 1877, William Irvin McFarland has been engaged in the practice of medicine since 1905. He is the son of William and Elizabeth (Knox) McFarland, both natives of Ireland. William McFarland, Sr., was born at Lindenberry, Ireland, February 27, 1832, and came to America in 1848. A farmer and stockman for many years, he was retired at the time of his death at Beatrice on September 1, 1901. His wife, who was born in the North of Ireland, August 26, 1844, died at Beatrice in 1914.

Educated first in country school, Dr. McFarland later attended Nebraska Wesleyan University, where he was a member of the Thiophanian Society. He was admitted to the practice of medicine at Beatrice on June 2, 1905, and is a member of the Nebraska State and Thayer County Medical Societies.

He was married to Hattie Laura Miller at Lexington, Nebraska, December 12, 1905, and to them was born one son, Osmyn W., who is a pre-medic student at Creighton. Mrs. McFarland was born at Neoshaye, New York, and before her marriage was a music teacher. She received her musical education at Nebraska Wesleyan. She is at the present time superintendent of Blue Valley Hospital, which is operated by Dr. McFarland. The hospital, the only one in the county, specializes in surgery only.

Affiliated with the Presbyterian Church, Dr. McFarland is also a Mason and Kiwanian, and is a member of the Chamber of Commerce and The Nebraskana Society. Residence: Hebron.


Alexander McFarlane

For the past 40 years Alexander MeFarlane has carried on a successful mercantile business at Friend, Nebraska. He was born at Gartmoore, Scotland, June 11, 1854, the son of John and Janet (Sands) McFarlane. His father, who was a landholder and chief of the clan of McFarlane, was born at Gartmoore, September, 1815, and died there October, 1873. His mother was born at Gartmoore, in 1813, reared a family of ten children, and died there in 1896; for the past 100 years her family has lived on the estate of the Duke of Montrose.

Mr. McFarlane attended elementary school at Gartmoore; in 1870, was graduated from the high school in Glasgow, Scotland; and was president of Coleraine Ly-
