On January 17, 1926, she was married to Hugh James McKay at Haigler, Nebraska. Mr. McKay, who is the owner of a garage, was born at New London, Prince Edward Island, Canada, August 23, 1893. They have one son, Wallace Fulton, born March 13, 1917, in Prince Edward Island, Canada by a former marriage.

Mrs. McKay is a member of the Parent-Teachers Association (chairman of program committee 1929-31), a member of the Nebraska Education Association, of the Eastern Star, and the Haigler Woman's Club. Her hobbies are reading, music and domestic arts. Residence: Haigler. (Photograph in Album).


Henry Clark McKee

Henry C. McKee was born at Palmyra, Otoe County, Nebraska, January 25, 1870. His father, John Randall McKee, who was a farmer and stock buyer, was born in Ohio, June 5, 1839, of Scotch ancestry, and died at Palmyra, June 22, 1922.

Sallie Rebecca (Lowe) McKee, his mother, was born in Pickaway County, Ohio, October 1, 1840, and died at Palmyra, February 26, 1921. Before her marriage she was a teacher.

Mr. McKee has lived in Otoe County all his life and since finishing high school has been a farmer. A Republican, he served two terms, 1919-21, in the Nebraska Legislature.

He was united in marriage with Kate Loper at Palmyra, January 1, 1898. Mrs. McKee was born at Hinesdale, Morgan County, Indiana, March 12, 1871. Seven children were born to their marriage, five of whom are living. They are: Clarke, born February 14, 1894, who married Ruth Sines; Kenneth, born March 6, 1896, who married Ethel Fink; Aubrey, born April 14, 1898, who married Effie Mecham; Stanley, born June 24, 1900, who married Myrtle Wisecup, and who died September 2, 1930; Dwight, born June 19, 1899, who died August 2, 1899; Ralph, born September 15, 1901, who married Opal Cryle; and Kathryn, born August 26, 1905, who married Roy Vernon Dwinell.

Mr. McKee is an honorary member of the Veterans of the Foreign Wars in recognition of his having five sons in the World War. He is a member of the Eastern Star and the Masons. He is affiliated with the Palmyra Presbyterian Church. During the World War Mr. McKee was active in all war work in his county. Residence: Palmyra.


Neal Patrick McKee

One of the outstanding professional men at Atkinson, Nebraska, is Neal Patrick McKee who has engaged in the practice of medicine in that community since 1914. He was born at Willow Island, Nebraska, January 16, 1890, the son of Charles and Mary Anne (McMullan) McKee. His father, a farmer, was born in Ireland, came to this country in 1872, and died at Willow Island, April 30, 1905. His mother was born in Ireland and died at Willow Island, September 22, 1908.

Dr. McKee was graduated from the high school at Cozad, Nebraska, in 1907, and received the M. D. degree at Creighton Medical College in 1914 where he was a member of Phi Beta Phi and was active in baseball. He is president of the Atkinson Commercial Club, is a member of the Nebraska State Medical Society and the American Medical Society, and is affiliated with St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Atkinson. He served as first lieutenant in the Medical Corps of the United States Army from 1917 to 1919, and is now vice state commander of the American Legion, having served as post commander at one time.

On January 9, 1918, he was married at Atlanta, Georgia, to Oliva Zoe Sturdevant, who was born at Atkinson, March 9, 1891. Their children are: Mary Ellen, born August 22, 1920; and Neal S., born April 5, 1924. Residence: Atkinson. (Photograph on Page 801).


James Albert McKeeman

James Albert McKeeman has served as minister of Congregational Churches in Nebraska for the past 13 years and in Ainsworth for the past five years. He was born at Allerton, Iowa, January 29, 1882, the son of Madison Evans and Mary (Beasley) McKeeman, the former a farmer who was born of Scotch-Irish parentage in Ohio, January 10, 1848. His mother was born in Iowa in 1857 and died at Medford, Oklahoma, in July, 1916.

Mr. McKeeman attended rural school in Grant County, Oklahoma, was graduated from the Medford High School in 1904, received the A. B. degree at Kingfisher College in Oklahoma in 1911, and was awarded the B. D. degree at Hartford Theological Seminary in Hartford, Connecticut in 1914. He served as president of his senior class in college, was a member of the college football team at Kingfisher College, and in 1910 received the winning medal in the intercollegiate oratorical contest held in Oklahoma City.

He was ordained to the ministry at Medford, Oklahoma, in 1914, and has been active in both religious and civic affairs in Connecticutt, Oklahoma, and Nebraska, Mr. McKeeman was pastor at Geneva, Nebraska, 1919-23; at Blair 1923-25; at Waverly, Iowa, 1925-27; and since that time at Ainsworth. He is affiliated with the Elkhorn Valley Association of Congregational Churches of which he was moderator in 1927 and 1928, is a member of the Ainsworth Chamber of Commerce, and holds membership in the Masons and Odd Fellows.

For eight months during the World War Mr. McKeeman served in the Young Men's Christian Association. He was married to Evelyn M. Atkins at Stillwater, Oklahoma, July 13, 1914. Mrs. McKeeman, who aids her husband in his religious activities, was born at Niles, Kansas, February 2, 1885. She is descended from Rufus Putnam of Revolutionary fame and is eligible to the Colonial Dames and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Their three children are Katherine Louise, born April 21, 1917; James Madison, August 13, 1921; and Robert Lewis, born January 28, 1924. Residence: Ainsworth.


William Thomas McKelvey

William Thomas McKelvey, prominent farmer and stockman, was born in Martinsville, Illinois, February 17, 1857, son of Patrick and Mary (Campbell) McKelvey.

His father was born in County Donegal, Ireland, July 19, 1819, and died at Martinsville, December 29, 1881, His wife, Mary was born in Ohio, June 22, 1827, and died at Bayard, Nebraska, June 27, 1918.

Mr. McKelvey attended public school in Clark County, Illinois and for many years was a farmer and stockman. He is now retired. He is a stockholder of the First National Bank of Bayard. In 1908 at the time of the organization of Morrill County, he served as county commissioner two terms, elected on a Republican ticket. He was county chairman of the Young Men's Christian Association drive during the World War, is affiliated with the Methodist Episcopal Church, and is an Odd Fellow.

On December 25, 1892, he was married to Elizabeth Jane Webb at Martinsville, Illinois, her birthplace. She was born July 6, 1862, and died at Bayard, May 31, 1931. Mrs. McKelvey was a teacher before her marriage. She is the daughter of Isaac and Persis (Waren) Webb, who lived in Ohio before moving to Illinois. Residence: Bayard.

ty, Ohio, August 6, 1849, the son of Samuel and Jane (Sharon) McKelvie. His father, a farmer,. was born and grew to manhood at Locknaw-by-Stranraur, Scotland, and in 1840 came to America where he settled in Ohio. He was married in 1844 to Jane (Sharon) McKelvie who was born in Tuscarawas County; he died in Schuyler County, Illinois, August, 1872.

Jane (Sharon) McKelvie was a typical pioneer mother and homemaker who wove her children's clothes from unfinished flax and lived through the various hardships common to early settlers. Her ancestors, the Eatons, were Ohio people who moved to Illinois about 1850. She died in Schuyer County.

Mr. McKelvie attended a rural school, and later was a student in normal school for a time. He taught in country schools for 12 terms. It is interesting to note that in 1923 the University of Nebraska presented him with a diploma in recognition of the interest he has taken in livestock and agriculture in Nebraska. Only seven other persons have been so recognized.

He has been a farmer and purebred stock grower and for over 36 years has been a member of the board of directors of the Standard Poland-China Record Association. He has been a member of the local school board for 15 years, and for 60 years has held membership in the Odd Fellows; he is the only charter member of Lodge Number 128 who is living today.

His marriage to Jane Belinda Glandon was solemnized in Schuyer County, December 25, 1872. Mrs. McKelvie, who was a devoted wife and home maker, was born in Ohio and died in Clay County, February 1919. They have nine children: Homer L., born May 27, 1874, who married Mary Hayes; Otis A., born February 19, 1876; Othello, born May 27, 1877; Samuel Roy, born April 15, 1881; Jennie Maud, born October 7, 1883; Hiram Claud, born October 11, 1884; Pearl, born July 13, 1886; Florence, born September 22, 1888; and Floyd, born December 26, 1889.

Mr. McKelvie has written his memoirs in a book Seventy Five Years a Farmer, originally published in the Nebraska Farmer. It is interesting both as a personal record and as a history of pioneer Nebraska. He is a Methodist. For the past 50 years he has exhibited livestock at fairs and exhibitions throughout the country. Samuel R. McKelvie

Samuel R. McKelvie was born at Fairfield, Nebraska, April 15, 1881, son of Samuel and Jennie (Glandon) McKelvie.

On June 19, 1904, he was married to Flossie DeArnold at Table Rock, Nebraska.

From 1902 until 1905 Mr. McKelvie was with the Bee Publishing Company, and in 1905 became owner of the Nebraska Farmer of which he is president.

Mr. McKelvie served as a member of the Nebraska House of Representatives, 1911-13, was lieutenant governor of Nebraska, 1913-15, and governor of Nebraska, 1919-23. President Hoover appointed him a member of the Federal Farm Board in July, 1929. He retired in June, 1931.

He is a Republican, a Methodist, a Mason, and an Odd Fellow. He is also a member of the Elks, the Chamber of Commerce, the Chicago Athletic Club, and the Hamilton Club (Chicago). Residence: Lincoln.


Ferdinand W. McKenzie

Born in Nebraska, October 27, 1897, Ferd W. McKenzie is the son of Loyd Thomas and Catherine Mary (Wiedel) McKenzie. His father, who was born in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, December 11, 1873, is a dairy and poultry farmer. His ancestry is Scotch-Irish. Catherine Mary Wiedel was born at Sank City, Wisconsin, April 15, 1878, of German parentage.

Mr. McKenzie attended Sacred Heart Parochial School at Hebron, and for some time engaged in farming. Later he was a baker, and thereafter worked in a grocery store. For some years he has been the proprietor of the Standard Market, and has engaged in livestock buying.

On July 29, 1919, he was united in marriage to Agnes Ellen Lockhart at Orleans, Nebraska, her birthplace. Mrs. McKenzie was born June 6, 1897. There are three children, Duane, born November 6, 1920; Virginia, born October 30, 1924, and Paul, born August 12, 1928.

Mr. McKenzie is a Democrat. He attends Sacred Heart Church, is a member of the Knights of Columbus, and was grand knight 1923-24. At the present time he is president of the Kiwanis Club. He is a member of the Hebron Commercial Club and The Nebraskana Society. Residence: Hebron.


Jesse William McKerney

Jesse William McKerney, live stock broker, was born at Bayard, Iowa, July 31, 1889, son of Bernard F. and Jessie Hamilton (Newlin) McKerney. Bernard, the father, a native of New York City, was born August 15, 1855, of Scotch-Irish descent. At the time of his death at Seattle, Washington, October 24, 1931, he was retired. Jesse Hamilton Newlin, born at Mendota, Illinois, July 1, 1858, died at Clarinda, Iowa, January 19, 1927. Her ancestry was French and Irish.

Educated in the public schools of Clarinda, Iowa, Jesse William McKerney soon entered the banking business, in which he remained until 1922. At the present time he is a member of the firm of Henline & Son and the Kearney Live Stock Company, both of Kearney.

His marriage to Lulu Blanche Henline was solemnized at Grand Island, January 3, 1914. Mrs. McKerney was born at Kearney, June 7, 1890. There are three children Bernard Franklyn, born January 13, 1915; Betty Jayne, born April 21, 1916; and Jesse William, born March 2, 1918. All are high school students.

Mr. McKerney is a Republican. He is a member of all Masonic bodies including the Shrine, is affiliated with the Methodist Episcopal Church, is a member of the Chamber of Commerce, the Kearney Country Club and the Nebraskana Society. His favorite sport is golf and his hobby is mechanics. Residence: Kearney.


Alexander McKie, Jr.

Alexander McKie is a native of Glasgow, Scotland, born July 23, 1903. His father, Alexander McKie, was born at Barrhill, Ayrshire, Scotland, April 22, 1876, and came to America May 5, 1910, where he is engaged in the real estate business. He brought to America with him his wife, Grace McCracken Gait, who was born at Barrhill, October 21, 1875.

Alexander, Jr., was graduated from Central High School in 1920, and attended Creighton University 1920-22. He received his A. B. from the University of Nebraska in 1924, and his LL. B. in 1926. President of PI Kappa Alpha, 1925-26, and Ivy Day orator, 1926, he was president of the University Y. M. C. A., and a member of the varsity debate team at the University of Nebraska: He is a member of Delta Sigma Rho and Phi Delta Phi and of Scabbard and Blade.

Mr. McKie is a member of the firm of Finlayson, Burke & McKie. He was coach of debate at Creighton Preparatory School 1927-29, and at Omaha University 1929-30. He is professor of business law at the University of Omaha, and professor, University of Omaha Night Law School. A Republican, he was unsuccessful candidate for the state legislature from the 19th district.

During the World War he was a member of the R. O. T. C.; attended Reserve Officers Camp in 1928 and was instructor in Citizens Military Training Camp in 1929. He holds rank of first lieutenant in the Field Artillery Reserves.

American Bar, Associations, and has been elected president of the Barristers Club of Omaha for the term 1930-1. Sherman William McKinley, Jr.

Sherman William McKinley, Jr., lawyer, was born at Homer, Nebraska, November ii, 1901, son of Sherman William and Josie (Smith) McKinley, Sr. His father, a native of Illinois, was born May 27, 1879, and is county judge of Dakota County. His mother was born in Marcus, Iowa, June 18, 1882.

Mr. McKinley was graduated from the Sioux City, Iowa, High School in 1918, and received his A. B. from Morningside College in 1922. In 1925 he was awarded his LL. B. from the University of Nebraska, and is a member of Phi Gamma Delta and Phi Delta Phi.

Upon his admission to the bar, Mr. McKinley entered upon the active practice of his profession, and practices at Sioux City, Iowa, and South Sioux City, Nebraska. He is a Republican and a member of the Boals Methodist Church at South Sioux City. He is also a Mason and a member of The Nebraskana Society.

On July 5, 1930, he was united in marriage to Grace Harlan, at Lincoln. Residence South Sioux City.


Robert Lee McKissick

Robert L. McKissick was born at McKittrick, Montgomery County, Missouri, February 2, 1899. James S. McKissick, his father, was born at Fayette, Missouri, of Irish parentage. He was a merchant and railroad man.

Ida Julia (Gruber) McKissick, his mother, who was born at McKittrick, was the owner and manager of a general merchandise store. Her ancestry is German.

Mr. McKissick received his education in the public and high schools of McKittrick. He has lived in Nebraska since 1917 and has held the following positions: telegraph agent in various towns of the St. Louis division of the M-K-T Railway, 1916-17; telegrapher and dispatcher in various towns of the Wyniore division of the C. B. & Q. Railway, and since 1922 has been a farmer and stockman at Dunbar, Nebraska. He is at the present time vice president of the Farmers' Elevator Company at Dunbar. He also is an auctioneer.

On December 27, 1920, he married Pearl W. Knabe at Nebraska City, Otoe County, Nebraska. Mrs. McKissick was born at Nebraska City, November 26, 1899. They have one daughter, Arlene, born February 9, 1925.

He is a Royal Arch Mason, a member of the Dunbar Community Club and the Nebraskana Society. Since 1926 he has been treasurer of school district Number 11. Politically, Mr. McKissick is an Independent. His favorite sports are baseball, golf and racing. His hobby is reading. Residence: Dunbar.


Archie L. McLaurin

Archie L. McLaurin was born on a farm in Bruce County, Ontario, Canada, May 29, 1859. After completing his elementary education he was graduated from Tiverton High School at Tiverton, Ontario, Canada.

His father, Alexander McLaurin was born on a farm in Glengary County, Ontario, Canada, in the year 1827. Archie McLaurin, father of Alexander, came from Perthshire, Scotland, to this country June 15, 1815, the day of the Battle of Waterloo, and died in 1874 at the age of one hundred and two years. He farmed until his death at Tiverton on June 29, 1902.

Mary (McLaren) McLaurin, wife of Alexander, was of Scotch descent. She was born in Glengary County, Ontario, May 26, 1828, and died at Tiverton, July 23, 1918.

Archie L. McLaurin married Jennie Mary Campbell, born at Maxwell, Ontario, August 26, 1864, and who died in Fairbury, Nebraska, August 26, 1926. Before her marriage she was a school teacher. To them was born one son, Colin C., on September 26, 1893, who is married to Clard Siders. He, with his father, is in the harness, saddlery, and shoe business, the oldest firm in Fairbury, known as McLaurin and Son. Mr. McLaurin has been in this business since June 21, 1888.

He is a Republican. A resident of Nebraska for forty-three years, he is a member of the first Baptist Church of Fairbury. He is a Modern Woodman of America and an Elk. Hiking is his favorite sport, and welfare work in Fairbury is his hobby. Residence: Fairbury.


John McLellan

John McLellan was born at Glasgow, Scotland, September 11, 1864, the son of James and Helen (Kelly) McLellan. His father, who was a farmer, was born at Glasgow, and in 1869 came to America where he settled in Illinois; he died at McAllister, Oklahoma, in 1815 (sic). His mother, whose father was a merchant in Scotland, was born in that country and died in Logan County, Illinois, in 1810 (sic).

Mr. McLellan attended business college in 1889, and for over 26 years was engaged in the mercantile business. He is now a real estate and insurance man at Grand Island. A Republican, he served as representative in the Nebraska Legislature from 1919-29, with the exception of 1923, and has always been extremely active in political affairs. He is a member of the Chamber of Commerce. Red Cross, Ancient Order of United Workmen in which he is a director, the Masons and Elks. He is a member of the board of directors of the Young Men's Christian Association, is an elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Grand Island, and holds membership in the Nebraskana Society.

His hobbies are horse races and reading. On December 18, 1892, he was married to Belle Jhunkie at Brookfield, Missouri. Mrs. McLellan, whose family has been prominent in the south for generations, was born at Knoxville, Tennessee, February 9, 1872. Their four children are: Agnes, born October 25, 1893, who married D. Willams; Myrtle, born November 9, 1896, who married Russell Halderman; John, born November 4, 1899; and Paul, born August 4, 1910. John is a revenue collector and Paul is a drafter in the highway department for the state of Nebraska. Residence: Grand Island.


Edward McLernon

Edward McLernon, who was born at Belfast, Ireland, October 24, 1849, is the son of John and Margaret McLernon. His father, who was a livestock broker, was a native of Scotland, and his mother lived in northern Ireland.

Mr. McLernon taught school in Ireland until 1869, was a teacher in Jersey City, New Jersey, for a year taught in the schools of Baltimore, 1870-74, and of Sidney, Nebraska, 1876-79. From 1881 to 1903 he engaged in the general merchandise business at Sidney, and from 1903 to 1911 was postmaster there. He has engaged in farming since 1911.

He is president of the Cheyenne County Historical Society, is affiliated with the Church of Christ at Sidney, and holds membership in the Nebraskana Society. His hobby is reading. He has written several articles on irrigation, the first one being in 1885, the main publication being the Lodge Pole Valley, and is still interested in developing irrigation in this district.

Of his marriage to Emma Johnson, which occurred at Fort Dodge, Iowa, March 21, 1891, two children were born: Irene, March 14, 1892; and John, April 7, 1898. Irene married C. F. Consigny, an executive of the Great Western Sugar Company of Denver, Colorado. John

was graduated from the University of Arizona and teaches at a co-agricultural school at Young, Arizona.

Mr. McLernon has been a member of the Republican party since 1872 when he cast his first vote for Grant, and has voted for every Republican candidate for president since that year. Residence: Sidney.


Charles Gilbert McMahon

One of Nebraska's prominent surgeons is Charles Gilbert McMahon, of Brodstone Memorial Hospital at Superior. He was born at Peabody, Massachusetts, in 1880, the son of Thomas and Anna Josephine (Kelly) McMahon. Dr. McMahon received his early education in the public school at Adrian, Minnesota. He was a student at the University of Minnesota for two years in the pre-medical department, and in 1906 was awarded the M. D. degree there. He was elected to Nu Sigma Nu.

He was assistant surgeon in the Adams Hospital at Hibbing, Minnesota, for a time, acted as assistant chief surgeon for Miami Inspiration Hospital, at Miami, Arizona, was chief surgeon for the Tennessee Copper Company, and for 10 years has been chief surgeon at Brodstone Memorial Hospital at Superior. Dr. McMahon is the author of various articles on surgical subjects published in Annals of Surgery, Tennessee State Medical Journal, and Nebraska State Medical Journal.

He holds a fellowship in the American College of Surgeons, is a member of the Superior Kiwanis Club, and is a member of the Nebraskana Society. His political affiliation is with the Republican party. In 1907, Dr. Mahon married Grace Martha Cooper at Adrian, Minnesota. They have a daughter, Herma Wilhelmine, who was born in 1912; she is a student at the University of Nebraska. Residence: Superior.


Patrick Joseph McManus

Patrick Joseph McManus, general merchant at Valentine for the past forty-one years, was born at Benton, Wisconsin, October 27, 1860, son of Patrick and Ellen (Cassady) McManus.

His father was born in Ireland, came to America in 1854, and died at O'Neill, Nebraska, June 27, 1890. His mother, also born in Ireland, died at O'Neill January 12, 1902.

Mr. McManus is a member of the Red Cross and St. Patrick's Catholic Church. He is a Democrat. Residence: O'Neill.


Charles McMartin

Charles McMartin, educator and physician of Omaha, was born in Crawford County, Iowa, May 11, 1880. His father, Archibald McIntyre McMartin, who was a farmer, was born at Johnstown, New York, August 16, 1847, and died at Long Beach, California, November 9, 1928; his Scotch ancestors came to America before the Revolution. His mother, Harriet Amelia (Smith) McMartin, was born at Chelsea, Massachusetts, September 6, 1849, and died at Dunlap, Iowa, May 22, 1902. Her English ancestors were in America prior to the Revolution.

Dr. McMartin was graduated from Grinnell Academy at Grinnell, Iowa, in 1898; was awarded the Bachelor of Philosophy at Grinnell College in 1902; received his M. D. at Rush Medical College in 1906; and was a student at the University of Vienna in 1910. He has been engaged in the practice of medicine and surgery at Omaha since 1907; specializing in skin and urinary diseases. Since 1910 he has been professor of skin and genito-urinary diseases at Creighton Medical College.

He is married to Mary Elizabeth O'KelIy; she was born at Dublin, Ireland. They have one daughter, Harriet Margaret, born September 26, 1912. Dr. McMartin is a member of the Omaha-Douglas County Medical Society; the State Medical Association; the American Medical Association; and the American Urological Association. He is a member of the Omaha University Club; the Omaha Athletic Club; and the Omaha Country Club. He is a member of Lininger Lodge of the Masons, Scottish Rite, and Shrine; is affiliated with the First Central Congregational Church of Omaha; and is a Republican. Residence: Omaha


James Lloyd McMaster

J. Lloyd McMaster, legislator, lawyer and executive, was born in Hall County, Nebraska, November 13, 1888, son of Anderson Fremont and Margaret Alice (Stewart) McMaster. The former was a native of Iowa, a farmer and carpenter.

Upon the completion of his work at Central City High School in 1909, Mr. McMaster entered the University of Nebraska, receiving the degree of LL. B. in 1916. He received a letter in track 1913-14, and was a member, captain and winner of a letter in the Nebraska cross country team 1914.

He was married to Dessie Ellen Collins, who was born in Marshalltown, Iowa, October 28, 1888, on September 21, 1916. To them three children were born, Margaret Ellen, born March 6, 1918; J. Lloyd, Jr., born August 2, 1919, and Collins S., born March 3, 1921.

Mr. McMaster is a Republican and served as a member of the House of Representatives 1925-27, during which he was chairman of the judiciary committee and speaker pro tern in 1927. He is engaged in the practice of law and is president and director of the following: Western Good Roads Service Company, Nebraska Neon Company, and Iowa Flexlume Neon Company.

During the World War he served as chairman of the Lancaster County War Savings Stamp committee. He served as first secretary of the Lincoln post of the Reserve Officers Association. He is past commander of the Lincoln Camp of the Sons of Union Veterans. As a member of the Optimist International he was first president of the local organization and district governor of the 10th district 1929, 30, 31.

Mr. McMaster is a member of Grace Methodist Episcopal Church, the Nebraska State Bar Association, the Red Cross and the Masonic Order. In the last mentioned he is a member of the Scottish Rite and Shrine bodies. His sports are hiking and camping, and his hobby is boys' work. Residence: Lincoln.


Kenneth McMeen

Kenneth McMeen, a merchant at Lynch, Nebraska, has lived in this state for the past 30 years. He was born at Mount Vernon, Illinois, May 24, 1896, the son of James F. and Mattie J. McMeen. His father, a merchant, died at Gregory, South Dakota, in 1923.

Mr. McMeen was graduated from the Gregory High School in 1913, and during 1914-15 studied at Yankton College, Yankton, South Dakota. He is affiliated with the Methodist Church of Lynch, is active in the American Legion, and holds membership in the Nebraskana Society. During the World War he served as corporal in Headquarters Company 337 Field Artillery of the American Expeditionary Forces.

On March 16, 1920, he married Phyllis Alford at Pierce, Nebraska. Mrs. McMeen was born at Monowi, Nebraska, July 14, 1896. Residence: Lynch.


Duncan McMillan

Duncan McMillan, city treasurer of Chadron, was born at Tarbert, Scotland, November 21, 1869, son of Alexander and Misey (McDougal) MMillan. The father was born and died in Scotland, while the mother was born in Scotland, and died at Crawford, December 12, 1898. Her father was a farmer.
