Henry Schmitt was born at Ulysses, June 10, 1896. His father, Otto Schmitt, was born at Warsaw, Hancock County, Illinois, of German parentage, was a merchant, and died at. Ulysses, November 10, 1914. His mother, Mary (Morrison) Schmitt, was born at Willimantic, Windom County, Connecticut, of Irish parentage, and died at Ulysses, February 6, 1928. She was an enthusiastic church worker.

Charles Schmitt attended the Ulysses public and high schools, and was valedictorian of his class in 1914. He attended the University of Nebraska, 1914-15. He was a member of the Ulysses football team in 1913.

A resident of Nebraska since birth, Mr. Schmitt is at present the owner and manager of a retail store at Ulysses. He has served on the council and was chairman one term. He is a Democrat. He is a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, the Ulysses Commercial Club, the Modern Woodmen of America, the Knights of Columbus, and the Red Cross, and is a life member of The Nebraskana Society. Residence: Ulysses.


Albert L. Schneider

Albert L. Schneider, physician and surgeon, was born at Langnau, Switzerland, April 4, 1887, and has been a resident of Nebraska for the past ten years. His father, Gottlieb Schneider, was born in Switzerland, where he died. He was a contractor. His wife, Liesette Schwander, was also born in Switzerland.

Dr. Schneider received his primary and secondary education in Langnau, and attended secondary school until 1903. He received his medical degree from Chicago College of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois, in the spring of 1918, and was admitted to the practice of medicine in Wyoming in June, 1919. He is a member of Alpha Phi Mu.

During the years of 1913 and 1914, Dr. Schneider was research chemist for the United Steel Company at Gary, Indiana. From 1916 until 1918, he was assistant professor of Histology at the Chicago Hospital College of Medicine. He held the rank of first lieutenant in the medical corps from 1918 until 1919 and engaged in the chemical warfare research work at the American University of Washington, D. C., during the later part of the World War.

From 1920 until the spring of 1922 Dr. Schneider was interne and house physician at St. Francis Hospital in Colorado Springs. In 1922 he was assistant superintendent of the Nebraska State Tubercular Hospital. Since 1923 he has been in private practice at Brady. Dr. Schneider is the author of Eletro-Coagulation of Tonsils (1932).

On May 15, 1929, he was married to Emma F. Lenke at Omaha. She was born in Germany in 1902. Dr. Schneider is a past member of the Chicago Anatomical Society and a member of the American Congress of Physical Therapy. He is a member of the Lincoln County and Nebraska State Medical Societies and in 1923 served as vice-president of the former. He is a Protestant and a member of the American Legion. He was first commander of Glendo, Wyoming Post in 1919. Since 1919 he has held the rank of captain in the United States Medical Reserve. He is a member of the Military Surgeons of the United States. Among Dr. Schneider's favorite sports are fishing, golfing, and shooting. He is a breeder of fancy game and fur and pure-bred St. Bernard dogs. Residence: Brady.


Fred David Schneider

Born at Minden, Nebraska, December 16, 1891, Fred David Schneider is the son of Rhynehart and Rebecca (Schafer) Schneider. His father, who was a farmer and stockraiser, was born at Peru, Illinois, March 30, 1866, and died at Hastings, Nebraska, May 7, 1930. His mother, whose father served in the Civil War, was born of German parentage at Iowa City, Iowa, July 22, 1874.

Mr. Schneider was graduated from the high school at Minden, in 1911, was a student at the University of Nebraska, and Kearney State Normal School, and later attended the University of Colorado. He taught in rural schools in Kearney County, Nebraska, for three years and during the past 20 years has been prominent as an educator in the following schools: Riverton, Nebraska. three years; Cedar Rapids, three years; Loup City, the past 11 years. He is now superintendent of schools at Loup City, and is a member of the Rotary Club and Commercial Club of that city.

He is a member of the Nebraska State Teachers Association, the National Educational Association, North Central Music Supervisors Conference, and the Schoolmasters Club. He is a Mason, a member of the Knights of Pythias, and of the Loup City First Presbyterian Church. His chief interest is music.

On June 3, 1914, he was married at Miller, Nebraska, to Grace Darling Norcross. Mrs. Schneider, whose ancestry is English and Scotch, was born at Miller, November 3, 1894. She is descended from General George B. McClellan. They have two children: June Elizabeth, born July 23, 1916; and Fred David, Jr., born October 16, 1918. Residence: Loup City. Albert Louis Schnurr

Albert Louis Schnurr, lawyer, was born at Mount Pleasant, Iowa, August 21, 1879, son of William and Rosa (Rukgaber) Schnurr. The father was born at Portsmouth, Ohio, and the mother at Richmond, Virginia.

Mr. Schnurr attended the public school of Mount Pleasant, Iowa, and was graduated from high school there. Thereafter, he attended Iowa Wesleyan University, Mount Pleasant Academy, and the Omaha Law School. He was admitted to the bar, in 1906, and from 1908 until 1910, served as county judge of Sioux County. During 1926, 1927, 1928 and 1929, he was county attorney of Sioux County. He has been in the banking business for 14 years, and is now Sioux County deputy county attorney. He is secretary and treasurer of the Harrison National Farm Loan Association.

His marriage to Elsie Rohwer was solemnized, June 29, 1910. Mrs. Schnurr was born at Atlantic, Iowa. She is a member of the Eastern Star and Rebekahs. They have two children, William E. and Clarence A.

During the late war, Mr. Schnurr was chairman of all liberty loan and war savings drives in his county. He is a Protestant, a member of the Red Cross, the Masons, the Odd Fellows, the Foresters, and the Brotherhood of the American Yeoman. Residence: Harrison.


John Conrad Schoemaker

Born at Eagle Lake, Indiana, November 29, 1865, John Conrad Schoemaker has resided in Nebraska fifty years. His father, Martin Schoemaker, was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, in September, 1831, was reared in Chicago, Illinois, and worked in a barber shop there for five years. In 1870 moved to Benton County, Iowa, where he lived for 12 years. He then moved to Greeley County, Nebraska, in 1882, where he has since resided. When he first located he lived 50 miles from the railroad. He died at Scotia on October 23, 1924. Anna Meyer, wife of Martin Schoemaker, was born in Germany, August 3, 1844, and died at Scotia, October 20, 1919.

John Conrad Schoemaker attended rural school and until sixteen years ago was engaged in farming. At that time he became the owner of a mercantile business in Scotia. A Republican, he was mayor of Scotia two years. He is affiliated with the Evangelical Church,

a member of the Parent Teachers Association and the Nebraskana Society.

On August 28, 1889, he was married to Mary Louise Miller at Scotia. Mrs. Schoemaker, who is of German descent, was born in Racine, Wisconsin, April 3, 1871. To them were born three children, Alice, July 12, 1891; Walter, May 21, 1893, who married Elsie Hermsmeyer; and Roy, born June 30, 1896, who married Dorthea Piepho. Alice is a registered nurse; Walter ownes a meat market and Roy is in a general store at Scotia. Residence: Scotia.


Alfred B. Schoenauer

Alfred B. Schoenauer was born in Holmes County, Ohio, July 4, 1858, the son of Frederick and Sarah (Fabra) Schoenauer. His father, who was a shoemaker, mail carrier, and farmer in his native country, was born at Berne, Switzerland, April 3, 1831, and died at Whitley, Indiana, September 1, 1910; he was a Civil War veteran. His mother was born in Holmes County, January 14, 1838, and died at Whitley.

Mr. Schoenauer attended rural school in Whitley County and in 1884 moved to Nebraska where he became engaged in farming. He is a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and is affiliated with the Friends Church at Plainview, Nebraska. He served as mayor of Plainview, elected on the Democratic ticket, 1909-13, 1925-26, and in 1926 was a candidate for the legislature.

On October 21, 1883, he was married to Evaline Brandenburg at Huntington, Indiana. Mrs. Schoenauer was born at Whitley, June 5, 1857, and died at Plainview, December 8, 1931. Their three children are: Arlen, born September 9, 1886, a farmer; Vilas, born September 12, 1888, a farmer; and Eber, born April 23, 1891, who is a disabled veteran of the World War. Residence: Plainview.


William Albert Schoeneck

William Albert Schoeneck, son of Carl Frederick and Emily (Radtke) Schoeneck, was born at Scribner, Nebraskana, March 27, 1871. His father was born in Germany, April 3, 1842, and came to America in 1860. A farmer, he homesteaded less than a mile south of Scribner in Dodge County, and died at Scribner in 1916. His wife, Emily, was born in Germany, December 2, 1850, and died at Scribner, January, 1931. She was a school teacher.

William A. Schoeneck was educated in the public schools of Dodge County, and has been engaged as a merchant and garage owner for several years. He was married to Sophie Henriette Siems at Fremont, November 25, 1893. Mrs. Schoeneck was born in the Province of Oldenburg, Germany, June 25, 1873. There are four children, Hubert, born October 12, 1894, who married Gertrude Patiedl; Norma, born November 12, 1898, who married Fred Ebel; Arlan, born June 24, 1901, who married Inez Hall; and Eldon, born March 6, 1904, who is unmarried. All three sons are in business.

A progressive Democrat, Mr. Schoeneck has been interested in politics and active in the work of the party in a local way. He is a member of the Snyder Commercial Club, the Congregational Church, and has been elected to membership in The Nebraskana Society. He has served on the school board and has held various village offices. Residence: Snyder.


Louis Scholz

On July 25, 1870, at Braunseifen, Austria, Louis Scholz son of Joseph and Josephine (Stefan) Scholz, was born. His father, a farmer and freighter, was born at Altliebau, Austria, May 20, 1826, and died at Osceola, Nebraska, December 2, 1916.Josephine Scholz was born at Braunseifen, Austria, September 29, 1833, and died at Osceola, Nebraska, July 2, 1895. Louis Scholz attended a pioneer school.

Mr. Scholz was united in marriage to Anna Solterberg on March 30, 1891, at Osceola. She was born at Omaha, December 20, 1874. They have five children: Martin, born July 14, 1892, who is married to Mary A. Scott; Lena, born October 2, 1899, who is married to Reuben C. Timm; Walter, born November 22, 1902; Evelyn, born July 2, 1906; and William, born August 4, 1908.

Mr. Scholz has been a resident of Nebraska for fifty-two years, and has been a farmer most of that time. He holds membership in the Modern Woodmen of America, the Red Cross, and The Nebraskana Society. He was a member of the Parent-Teacher Association from 1926 to 1928, and from 1892-1895 of his local school board. Reading history, and mechanics are his hobbies. Residence: Osceola. James Elvin Schoonover

Born in Pike County, Ohio, June 7, 1872, James Elvin Schoonover is the son of Isaac Wells and Mary Ann (Hyatt) Schoonover, the former a farmer in Ohio. His mother was born in Ohio, in 1948, of English parentage, and died at Aurora, Nebraska, in 1888.

James E. Schoonover was a student at Aurora High School, but was forced to leave school at the age of 16 to earn his living. He learned the printer's trade in the office of the Aurora Republican and continued with this paper until 1895. During 1895 and 1896, he edited and published the Hampton Times at Hampton, Nebraska, returning to Aurora, in 1897.

He was appointed assistant postmaster and served in that position under Alexander N. Thomas, 1898-99. In 1900 he returned to the printing business with the owner of the Aurora Republican, and in 1909 acquired Mr. Alden's interest in the newspaper. He served for two years as deputy state oil inspector, and in 1914 established a moving picture business at Aurora. Since 1922 he has been postmaster at Aurora.

Mr. Sehoonover is secretary and director of the Aurora Building & Loan Association of which he was an organizer in 1902. He is a member of the Rotary Club, serving as president in 1927-28, the Nebraskana Society, Nebraska State Historical Society, and the Red Cross. He is past president and a board member of the Aurora Country Club. During the war he was active in all Liberty loan drives, food saving campaigns and all other civilian war activities.

A Republican, he has been active in polities since his boyhood when he organized a first voters club to support E. J. Hainer, candidate for congress. He has served as organizer, secretary, and chairman of county central committees, and in 1905 was the Republican candidate for county clerk.

Mr. Schoonover has had an interesting and varied career and has been an important factor in the progress of his state and community. In 1873, he was brought to Nebraska in a covered wagon, the family settling in Hamilton County. His childhood was spent in a sod house under the most trying and crude circumstances of pioneer life, and he remembers vividly the difficulties and dangers of Nebraska life in the early seventies.

On December 24, 1896, he was married to Maude Ann Matlock, at Aurora. She was born at South Bend, Indiana, October 14, 1875, of English and Scotch parentage. To their marriage the following children were born: Harold M., April 5, 1898, who married LaVerne Harris: Halga C., July 27, 1900, who married Walter C. Kenney; James M., July 30, 1905; and Evalyn M., September 30, 1909. Residence: Aurora.

in community affairs for many years. He was born at Hopewell, Warren County, Missouri, December 2, 1875, the son of John and Amalia (Schaake) Schowengerdt. His father, a farmer and merchant, was born in Warren County, Missouri, and died at Chamois, Osage County, Missouri, October 11, 1888; his ancestry was German. His mother was born in Germany and died at Hopewell, January 25, 1882..

Dr. Schowengerdt attended public schools and in 1898 was graduated from high school. He received his M. D. degree at Mariam Sime Beaumont College of Medicine, St. Louis, Missouri, May 1, 1902, and was admitted to the practice of medicine at St. Louis, Missouri. He has lived at Cortland for 20 years and has been engaged in general medical practice there during that time. He is a member of the Gage County Medical Society, and the Nebraskana Society. He is affiliated with Epworth Methodist Episcopal Church at Cortland, is a member of the Republican party, and holds membership in the Modern Woodmen of American and the Masons.

He was married to Mary Elisabeth Schmidt at Warrenton, Missouri, July 8, 1903. Mrs. Schowengerdt, who is of German descent, was born at Chamois, Missouri, February 20, 1875. Five children were born to this marriage: Irene, born November 27, 1904, who married John Wesley Lee; Waldo, born December 13, 1905, who died November 2, 1906; Gladys, born June 8, 1908, who died October 2, 1908; Grace, born April 21, 1910; and Frances, born August 2, 1916. Irene is a registered nurse, and Grace is a student and teacher. Residence: Cortland.


B. Frank Schramm

Born at DeWitt, Nebraska, September 7, 1883, E. Frank Schramm educator and geologist, has resided in Nebraska 35 years. He is the son of George W. and Mary Charlotte (Hawes) Schramm, the former a retired business man and farmer, who was born at Rushville, Illinois, April 19, 1856. He is of German descent. His wife, Mary Charlotte, was born at Council Bluffs, Iowa, in April, 1858, and died at Newkirk, Oklahoma, June 13, 1914. She was active in clubwork, and of early American ancestry.

E. Frank Schramm attended the grade schools of DeWitt and Newkirk, and was graduated from the Newkirk High School in 1902. He received his A. B. from the University of Oklahoma in 1906, and his M. A. from the University of Nebraska in 1908. Afterward he attended the law college of the university two and a half years. At Oklahoma he was president of the senior class, president of the Athletic Association, the Oratorical Association and the Forum Literary Society and associate editor and business manager of the college paper. He is a member of Sigma Xi, Alpha Chi Sigma, Sigma Gamma Epsilon, Phi Delta Phi, Phi Alpha Tau and Kappa Sigma. He has been grand vice president of Sigma Gamma Epsilon since 1920.

Since 1906 Mr. Schramm has been a member of the teaching staff of the University, and was field assistant, United States Geological Survery (sic) 1905, 07, 08, and 09, and member 1910-15. During the years 1906, 1912 and 1914 he was engaged in the Morrill Geological Expeditions, and in 1910 and 1911 was mineral expert in the United States Forest Service. During the year 1917-18 he was geologist for the Union Pacific Railroad Company.

He is now professor of geology at the University of Nebraska, consulting geologist and mining engineer for many oil and mining companies, and geologist for the Midwest Chemical Company and geologist and mining engineer for the Soil Tone Company of Utah.

During his professional career he has been the author of various articles, some of which are: Building Stones of Oklahoma; Mining Claims; Oil Shales of Wyoming; Agate Anticline; Oil Possibilities of Nebraska and Well Logs of Nebraska (co-author).

Professor Schramm's professional memberships include the American Institute of Mining and Metallurgical Engineers, the American Association of Petroleum Geologisits; American Association for the Advancement of Science (Fellow); American Forestry Association; Archeological Society of Washington; Nebraska Academy of Science; and the National Geographical Society. He is a member of the Unitarian Church, the Knights of Pythias, the Young Men's Christian Association and the Brotherhood of American Yeomen. His favorite recreations are fishing and hunting, and his hobby is the collection of minerals and gems. Residence: Lincoln.


Isaac Butler Schreckengast

Isaac B. Schreckengast was born at Danville, Des Moines County, Iowa, October 5, 1864, the son of Isaac and Sarah (Davis) Schreckengast. His father, who was a cobbler and merchant, was born at Lebanon, Pennsylvania, and died at Keota, Keokuk County, Iowa, in 1911; his ancestry was German. His mother was born at Annvile, Pennsylvania, and died at Keota, in 1896. She was the daughter of Pennsylvania Dutch ancestors who lived in Pennsylvania.

Rev. Schreckengast attended school in Iowa, and received the B. S. degree at Iowa State College, 1885, and the S. T. B. degree at Boston University, 1895. He was awarded the honorary degree Ph. M. at Iowa State College, and the D. D. degree at Simpson College. He was elected to membership in Phi Kappa Phi. He has lived in Nebraska for the past 21 years, and is now chancellor at Nebraska Weslcyan University.

He is a member of the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce, and the Professional Men's Institute. He is affiliated with the First Methodist Episcopal Church of Lincoln, and is a member of the board of education of the M. E. Church with headquarters in Chicago.

His marriage to Genevieve Clarke was solemnized at Keota, May 1, 1889. Mrs. Schreckengast was born on a farm in Iowa County, Iowa, August 4, 1861; before her marriage she was a teacher. Her parents were born and reared in Vermont and New Hampshire. Three children were born to this marriage: Joy, born August 1, 1890, who married Lorne E. Jones; Carita, born August 13, 1892, who married Dr. J. D. Taylor; and Dorothy, born October 27, 1898, who married Dr. F. O. Hansen. Residence: Lincoln.


Fred Schreiner

Fred Schreincr has been a resident of Nebraska for over 46 years and has been engaged in the mercantile business in this state for 26 years. He was born at Peru, Illinois, July 14, 1874, the son of Wilhelmena (New) and Lorenz Schreiner. His father was born in Bavaria, Germany, February 24, 1842, and came to America with his parents in 1860. The trip was made in a sailing boat and lasted 63 days. He died at Syracuse, Otoe County, Nebraska, June 11, 1918. He was a farmer by occupation.

Fred Schreiner's mother, the sister of several Civil War veterans, was born in Paxton County, Pennsylvania, April 18, 1847, and died near Syracuse, April 16, 1928. She was a homemaker for her family of twelve children.

Mr. Schreiner came to Nebraska in February, 1884, and received his education in the country schools, completing school in 1894. He was graduated from the commercial department of the United Brethren College at York, Nebraska, 1903. Since that time he has been in the mercantile business.

His marriage to Grace Vivian Shaw was solemnized at York, Nebraska, September 1, 1904. Mrs. Schreiner was born at York, March 14, 1883. Her mother was of Quaker descent. Four children were born to this union, two of whom are living: Harold M., born October 8, 1905, who is a clerk in his father's hardware store; Evangeline, born June 7, 1909, who died September 1, 1910; Dwight E.,

born November 20, 1912, who died April 6, 1928; and Norman B., born August 10, 1915.

Mr. Schreiner served three years in the Nebraska National Guard, Company A, First Regiment, 1901-02-03, and was discharged as first sergeant. He served in the Nebraska Home Guards at Unadilla, Nebraska, 1916-1918, and was discharged in 1918 as second lieutenant by Governor Keith Neville. He is a member of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, Mount Moriah Lodge Number 57 at Syracuse, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Valley of Lincoln.

He is a director of the Unadilla school board. He is affiliated with the Methodist Church. He is a Republican. Residence: Unadilla. (Photograph on Page 1062).


Robert D. Schrock

Robert D. Schrock, orthopedic surgeon, was born in Delaware, Ohio, August 22, 1884, son of William H. and Nettie M. (Patterson) Schrock.

He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Wabash College in 1905, and his medical degree from Cornell University in 1912. He is a member of the American Orthopedic Association and the Chamber of Commerce. His clubs are: the University, the Country, and the Athletic Club. Residence: Omaha.


Herman Schroeder

Herman Schroeder was born in Noerenberg, Germany, January 24, 1867, the son of Herman Schroeder and Henrietta (Samme) Schroeder.

The father was a merchant in Noerenberg. He was born in Germany, February 24, 1845 and died at Elvershagen, Germany, in August, 1911. His mother was born in Noerenberg, December 26, 1844, and died at Elvershagen in 1926.

Mr. Schroeder came from Germany and settled in Omaha in 1888. He worked as a blacksmith for Andrew Murphy until September 1, 1889, when he began working for the Union Pacific Railroad Company at Omaha as a car repairer. In March, 1890, he was transferred to Sidney in the same capacity and was made car foreman in September, 1902. He was retired on a pension May 1, 1928.

He was united in marriage November 14, 1891, to Elizabeth Fix at Norfolk, Nebraska. Mrs. Schroeder was born near Norfolk, March 25, 1872, of German parentage. Six children were born to their union, Frank G., born March 3, 1893, who married Mable Closman, and is residing at Sidney; Sidney A., born October 20, 1894, who married Edna Bird, and is residing at Cheyenne, Wyoming; Elizabeth H., born October 15, 1896, who married N. K. Williamson, and is residing at Cheyenne, Wyoming; Florence B., born October 21, 1899, who married W. Turnbull, and is residing at London, England; Herman J., born December 18, 1902, who resides at Los Angeles, California; and Herald K., born July 17, 1921. Residence: Sidney.


Herman Gordon Schroeder

Born at Elwood, Nebraska, June 24, 1698, Herman Gordon Schroeder is the son of Frank David and Martha (Burt) Schroeder. His father was born near Springfield,. Illinois, March 8, 1868, the son of a German settler in the early nineteenth century. His mother was born in Illinois, January 23, 1871.

Herman Gordon Schroeder attended the public and high schools of Lincoln, and received his Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nebraska in 1921. He is a member of Phi Delta Phi and Delta Tau Delta. Since his admission to the bar Mr. Schroeder has been in active practice in Hastings. From 1925 to 1929 he, served as police judge of Hastings, having been elevated on the Non-Partisan ticket in 1925 and 1927. On January 5, 1931, took office as county attorney of Adams County, elected on the Democratic, ticket.

Mr. Schroeder was married on March 28, 1922, to Hallie Virginia Minor at Hastings. Mrs. Schroeder was born at Nelson, Nebraska, December 8, 1901. There are three children, Jeanne, born May 30, 1923; Gretchen, born February 21, 1926; and Frank Minor, born November 29, 1928. The family attends the Episcopal Church.

During the World War Mr. Schroeder was a private in the radio service. He is a member of the American Legion, the Kiwanis Club, the Elks, and The Nebraskana Society, and his social club is the Hastings Country Club. Residence: Hastings. (Photograph on Page 1065).


Frank Schukar

On March 30, 1880, Frank Schukar was born at Shobonier, Fayette County, Illinois, the son of August Schuker, and Bertha (Petermann) Schukar. His father, a farmer, was born at Koenigsberg, Germany, in 1848, and came to America in 1865, with his parents who died at the ages of ninety and ninety-one. He died at Evansville, Indiana, in 1914.

His mother was born in Germany, February 22, 1858. She came to the United States with her parents, at the age of seven, the family settling in Wisconsin. She died at Evansville, Indiana, in May 1928.

In 1905 Mr. Schukar was graduated from the Tobin College at Fort Dodge, Iowa. On March 21, 1906, his marriage to Johanna Bergstraesser was solemnized at Clarksville, Iowa. Mrs. Schukar was born at Ebersdorf, Germany, October 1, 1875. Her ancestors were keepers of the old Roman Highway known as the Bergstrasse. To this union six children were born: Dorothea, born March 1, 1907, who is married to Gus Rohrs; Magdalene, born September 24, 1908, who is a registered nurse at Wesleyan Hospital at Wichita, Kansas; Marie, born November 20, 1910; Gertrude, born April 23, 1912; Herbert, born December 9, 1914; and George, born October 26, 1916.

Mr. Schukar is affiliated with the St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Byron, Nebraska. He is a Republican, a member of the Nebraskana Society and is president of the Byron Commercial Club. Horticulture and foreign languages are his hobbies. Residence: Byron.


Henry F. Schulte

Henry F. Schulte, coach of athletics at the University of Nebraska, has lived in the state for 13 years. He was born in St. Louis County, Missouri, February 4, 1879, the son of Henry John and Elizabeth Sehulte. His father, who was born in St. Louis County, in 1839, and died there in 1879, was a farmer, teacher, and judge, of German descent. His mother, who was born in St. Louis County in 1840, and died there in 1900, was manager of the home farm after her husband's death; her ancestry was German.

Mr. Schulte was graduated from Smith Academy at St. Louis, in 1897; was a student at Washington University for a time; and in 1907 received his A. B. degree from the University of Michigan. He was active in football during his college days. He is the author of various pamphlets on athletics; and is now coach of athletics at the University of Nebraska.

He was united in marriage at Marcellus, Michigan, June 9, 1909. Mrs. Sehulte, who was born at Marcellus, March 13, 1899, is descended from English, Scotch, Dutch, French, and Welsh ancestors. Their son, Henry Frank, was born September 24, 1924.

Mr. Schulte is a member of the Football Association, the Track Association, and various other athletic societies. He holds membership in the Chamber of Commerce; the Lions Club; University Club; Red Cross; Nebraskana Society; and the School Masters Club. He is a Mason. His sports include fishing and hunting, while his hobbies are antique furniture and handicraft. Residence: Lincoln.
