He is a graduate of Babcock School of Pharmacy and is registered in Montana and Nebraska.

Dr. Spohn taught school for a number of years and later engaged in farming. Since 1891, when he was awarded his degree he has practiced medicine, first at West Grove, Iowa, and since at Chester. He is a stockholder in the Chester State Bank and the Nebraska Light and Power Company.

Dr. Spohn was formerly affiliated with the Dunville Baptist Church in Davis County, Iowa, and now with the Methodist Episcopal Church at Chester. He is a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, the Royal Highlanders, the Modern Woodmen of America, the Red Cross, and The Nebraskana Society. Raising bees is his hobby. Residence: Chester. Albert William Sprick

For over 50 years Albert W. Sprick has been a farmer in Washington County, Nebraska, and has been active in the political and educational life of the state. He was born at Fontanelle, Nebraska, March 18, 1871, the son of Henry A. and Sophie (Wilkening) Sprick. His father, who was born at Bielefeldt, Germany, March 1, 1826, and died at Fontanelle, July 27, 1906, was a farmer and landowner in Nebraska, who served three terms in the state legislature. He was engaged in military service in Germany until he came to America in 1852. His mother was born at Schaumburg, Lippe, Germany, and died at Fontanelle, September 12, 1916. She was the mother of ten children and a typical pioneer home maker.

Mr. Sprick received a public school education with additional religious instruction; was a student at Iowa College; and in 1894 was graduated from Midland College with the B. S. degree. Except for three years spent in the mercantile business he has always been a farmer. He served as a member of the Constitutional Convention 1919-20, and was a member of the house of representatives, 1921, 1927, 1929, and 1931. He has always been a member of the Republican Party.

He was united in marriage with Bertha Katherine Westhold at Quincy, Illinois, August 24, 1911. Mrs. Sprick, who is an able and energetic assistant to her husband, was born at Quincy, March 5, 1875; her ancestry is German.

Mr. Sprick took part in all civilian war activities in 1917-18 and served as chairman of the local Red Cross. He has been school treasurer for nine years and treasurer of the Salem Lutheran Church for 10 years. He is a Mason, 32nd degree, Scottish Rite. His hobby is reading. Residence: Fontanelle.


Edward Herbert Springer

Edward Herbert Springer, postmaster and ranchman, was born at Wilmington, Delaware, March 15, 1863, son of Joseph Whittaker and Rachel (Armstrong) Springer.

The father was born in Wilmington, Delaware, in 1826, and was a cabinet maker by trade. He died at Philadelphia, in February, 1899. His ancestry was Swedish, emigrating from Germany to Sweden some time in the 12th century and coming to the United States in the 17th century.

Rachel Armstrong was born in Wilmington, Delaware, February 12, 1826, and died at Philadelphia, October 17, 1918. Her English ancestors emigrated from Thuringia, in Germany during the 12th century. Mr. Springer's ancestry comes from the direct descendants of the Emperor of Germany, Louis I, who was imprisoned in a castle and made his escape by springing from a window of the castle and escaping by boat, through which the name Springer was derived. Mr. Springer has in his possession the Springer history. He also has in his possession the naturalization papers of Carl Christopher Springer with the original seal of William Penn, the first governor of Pennsylvania, who was appointed by the King of England. The ancestry of the family is traced to 452.

In 1882 Edward Herbert Springer was graduated from the city schools of Philadelphia. In 1898 Florence Josephine Hempstill was united in marriage to James M. Pulliam at Jamestown, Colorado. Mrs. Springer was born at Jamestown, November 18, 1882, of English descent. Her second marriage was solemnized on May 1, 1919 at North Platte, Nebraska, to Edward Herbert Springer. She had three children by her first marriage, Harold H.; Dwight J.; and James D. Pulliam. The youngest son died November 19, 1919.

Mr. Springer has been active in Republican an politics for a number of years. He has been road overseer and assessor for several years, and has served as county commissioner of Lincoln County for 17 years. He is a member of the Elks, the Odd Fellows, and the Modern Woodmen of America. Residence: Brady. (Photograph in Album).


Henry Monroe Springer

The Honorable Henry Monroe Springer was born at Green Castle, Missouri, March 3, 1860, son of Elihu Earrington Springer and Holly Ann (Jones) Springer. Elihu Farrington Springer was born in Macomb, Illinois, March 22, 1838, and was an early settler in Nebraska, He served as state representative one term. His death. occurred at Mitchell, Nebraska, July 27, 1910. His forebears migrated from England to Germany, from there to Sweden, and from Sweden to America. Holly Ann Jones was born in Schuyler County, Illinois, August 12, 1838, and died at Wheatland, Wyoming, August 22, 1924.

Mr. Springer attended public schools in Sullivan County, Missouri, and about 42 years ago came to Nebraska. In 1902 he started construction on the Goshen Hole Irrigation ditch and reservoir in Goshen County, Wyoming, of which he is the owner and the builder. He is president of the First National Bank of Morrill, Nebraska, and chairman of the board of directors of the First National Bank of Mitchell, and a director of the Western Nebraska Livestock Feeders Corporation.

A Republican, he has served fifteen years as a member of the county board of commissioners of Scotts Bluff County, and at the present time is serving as state senator from the 33rd senatorial district. He is now mayor of Mitchell.

In 1879 Mr. Springer went to Idaho in a prairie schooner with his father and mother and brothers and sisters. They lived there five years, and spent three years buying, selling, and trailing horses from Oregon to the North Platte Valley. In 1885, while trailing horses, Mr. Springer filed on a tree claim in Mitchell Valley and made final proof on this tract of land. Mr. Springer lived in Wyoming from 1886 until 1889, twenty miles southeast of Douglas. He then located in Mitchell Valley where he has since resided.

He is a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Order of Eastern Star and the Modern Woodmen of America.

On February 2, 1882, he was married to Alice Bottenberg at Green City, Missouri. She was born at Table Grove, Illinois, November 16, 1861. Mrs. Springer attended schools at Table Grove, Illinois, and in Sullivan County, Missouri. She is the daughter of Levi and Elizabeth (Cox) Bottenberg, and is a member of the Eastern Star and the Woman's Club. Mr. and Mrs. Springer celebrated their golden wedding anniversary February 2, 1932. They have three children living, Frank, born April 4, 1889, died September 8, 1889; Odessa Men, born November 30, 1882, married Edward B. Dearing; Monroe, born April 10, 1884, died the same day; Ruby D., born April 18, 1885, married Lon D. Merchant; Vera Louise, born September 1, 1901, married Oliver Lewis Jones. Residence: Mitchell.

William George Springer

William George Springer, banker, was born at Pilot Township, Iowa, December 24, 1868, son of John Christopher and Margaret Elizabeth (Lortz) Springer. The father, born in Macon County, Illinois, January 19, 1845, died at Des Moines, Iowa, February 10, 1899. He was a farmer who served as corporal in Company I, 28th Iowa Infantry in the Civil War.

Margaret Elizabeth Lortz was born in Hessen Darmstadt, Germany, March 14, 1842, and died at Chicago, April 11, 1921. She was a teacher before her marriage. Coming to America with her parents in 1854, she came to Iowa in 1850.

William George Springer attended Pilot Center public school, the Marengo High School and the Capital City Commercial College at Des Moines. In 1890 he was a student at Drake University. On October 27 of that year he was married to Affie Belle Harrod at Des Moines. Mrs. Springer was born at Montezuma, Iowa, October 27, 1890. There were four children, Merlin L., born September 2, 1897, who married Lucile Cline; Willa Belle, October 28, 1907; and Maxwell John and Melville Daniel, born July 4, 1904, who died on October 23 and November 11, 1904, respectively. Merlin was graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1919 with his B. A., and received his LL. B. from Harvard University in 1922. Willa Belle was graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1930.

Mr. Springer came to Nebraska from Iowa on April 21, 1893, and has been a continuous resident since except for about three months residence in Idaho in 1920. He was cashier of the Commercial State Bank of Oxford, 1893-1903; owner and manager of the Springer Lumber Company at DeWitt, 1904-06; cashier of the First National Bank of Oxford, 1906-14. He organized and was made president of the Security State Bank of Oxford, continuing until 1920. Since 1920 he has been cashier of the First National Bank of McCook, of which he is also a director.

During the later war he was chairman of a liberty loan committee in Furnas County, a four minute speaker and a member of the Council of Defense. He is a Republican, a member of the Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary Club (past president), the American Red Cross (life member), the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons and the Young Men's Christian Association. His religious affiliation is with University Place Church of Christ at Des Moines. During the years 1925-31 he was a member of the McCook Board of Education, and for 15 years was a member of the board of education of Oxford. (Deceased, 1932). (Photograph in Album).


Edwin Eberhart Squires

Born at Hopkinton, Iowa, August 29, 1867, Edwin Eberhart Squires came to Nebraska in 1889 and has been engaged in active practice of law since 1893. He is the son of James Horace and Mary Ann (Eberhart) Squires.

Edwin B. Squires attended high school at Manchester, Iowa, during 1883 and 1884. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Kansas University in 1889, and his LL. B. from the University of Nebraska in 1893.

Beginning the practice of law in Kearney in 1893, Mr. Squires moved to Broken Bow in 1907 where he has since resided. His biography appears in The History of Custer County. Nebraska. Formerly a member of the law firm of Sullivan and Squires (1907-13), he is now a member of the firm of Squires, Johnson & Johnson. A Republican, he became county attorney of Buffalo County in 1905, serving one term, and in 1913 was elected mayor of Broken Bow.

On April 24, 1926, he was married to Miriam Stanley Carleton, at Lynn, Massachusetts. Mrs. Squires, who was born at Lynn on August 23, 1886, is a violinist and lyric soprano. Her ancestry is traced to early colonists in Massachusetts. Residence: Broken Bow.


Frank Joseph Srb

Frank Joseph Srb, a resident of Nebraska since 1876, has lived at Dodge, since 1888, and for many years has been active in the civic and business affairs of his community. He was born at Opatovice, Caslav, Czechoslovakia, March 31, 1874, the son of Frank and Marie (Novotny) Srb. His father, who was born at Doubravcany, Caslav, Czechoslovakia, December 3, 1835, and died at Dodge, September 1, 1910, was a farmer and saloon proprietor for many years; he was a staunch Democrat, but never aspired to a political, office. He moved to Cuming County in the fall of 1876, and was successful in both enterprises he undertook.

His mother was born at Opatovice, July 4, 1839, and died at Dodge, March 12, 1919. She was born of Czech parentage and came to America with her father. She had few interests outside her home, but was a good mother and home maker.

Mr. Srb attended rural and village school and then assisted his father in his business. He conducted a furniture and undertaking establishment for 29 years, part of the time in partnership with his brother. He was president of the First National Bank for about seven months before it closed. He is now connected with the Tichota Equalizer Company, a firm which makes and sells four and five horse equalizers.

For 20 consecutive years he was a member and treasurer of the board of education at Dodge; and a member of the board of trustees of Dodge for about ten years, part of that time acting as chairman. At this time he is serving his third year as justice of the peace for Webster Township, and is serving his second term as police magistrate for Dodge. He is a member of the Nebraska Funeral Directors Association. In 1925 he was treasurer of the Parents-Teachers' Association at Dodge. He is a member of Z. C. B. J., a Czech fraternal organization.

Mr. Srb's hobby is song and music. For a number of years he was manager and treasurer of the Bohemian Theatrical Society's Opera House now owned by Tel Jed Sokol. The latter is a Czech gymnastic association of which he is a member. He is a Catholic by baptism but is not a member of a local church.

His marriage to Louisa Talacko was solemnized at West Point, Cuming County, Nebraska, April 22, 1895. Mrs. Srb was born at Pabenice, Caslav, Czechoslovakia, December 6, 1874, and came to David City, Nebraska, in 1890. Six children were born to this marriage of whom five are living: Marie A., born April 22, 1896, who married Bohuslav Malec; Leon E., born August 18, 1897, who died September 28, 1909; Hugo F., born August 4, 1900, who married Frances G. Davey; Frank J., born November 22, 1908, who is studying law at the University of Nebraska; Luella, born November 4, 1910, who is a stenographer for the Aetna Life Insurance Company at Omaha; and Vivian, born December 16, 1917. Mr. Malec is part owner and manager of Peony Park. Hugo F. was graduated from the University of Nebraska, and is now state senator from Dodge and Washington counties. Residence: Dodge. Hugo Frank Srb

Born at Dodge, Dodge County, Nebraska, August 4, 1900, Hugo Frank Srb is the son of Frank Joe and Louisa (Talacka) Srb. His father, born at Opatovice, Bohemia, March 31, 1871, came to America in 1876, and was formerly a merchant and chairman of the village board, and member of the school board. At the present time he is justice of the peace and police magistrate (see Nebraskana.)

Mr. Srb attended Dodge public and high schools and was graduated from the latter in 1918. He attended Wayne Normal School, graduating in 1920, and received his LL. B. from the University of Nebraska in 1924. He was active in basketball in high school and at Wayne Normal, and a member of the University of Nebraska senior debating team. to his admission to the bar in 1924, he taught in the Elgin and Dodge High Schools. He is a Democrat, and was candidate for the state senate 1926, 1928, and was elected to that office in 1930.

On June 16, 1926, he was united in marriage to Frances Grace Davey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank S. Davey, at Lincoln. Mrs. Srb was born in Lancaster County, Nebraska, Jane 21, 1904. There are two sons, Richard, born August 3, 1927, and Arthur, born April 16, 1930.

Mr. Srb is a member of the Lewis Cerv Post No. 122, service officer, and past post commander. He is past president of the Dodge Commercial Club, and secretary of the board of education. He is a member of the Congregational Church, the Nebraska State and Dodge County Bar Associations, the Red Cross and The Nebraskana Society. Residence: Dodge. (Photograph in Album).


Joseph John Srb

Joseph John Srb, physician and surgeon, was born in Dodge, Nebraska, January 12, 1888, son of Joseph and Mary (Skala) Srb.

The father was born in Czecho Slovakia, March 19, 1859, and died at Dodge, August 1, 1922. He was a pioneer farmer in Cuming County, and established first furniture and undertaking business in Dodge, in 1894. He was a band leader for 30 years. He came from the family of Burgomasters of Czech descent. His wife, Mary, was born in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, January 29, 1863, and died at Dodge, March 11, 1921. Her family were pioneers in Cuming County, her father a veteran of the Civil War with the army of the Potomac.

Dr. Srb attended the public and high schools of Dodge, and was graduated from the latter in 1906. In 1907 he received the Bachelor of Science degree in Pedagogy at Fremont Normal School. In 1915 he received the degree of Bachelor of Medicine from Creighton Medical College, and was licensed to practice in Nebraska and Colorado by examination. He was valedictorian of his high school class, and music and band leader, while in college.

From 1907 until 1908 he was superintendent of schools at Nickerson, and from 1908 until 1909 was superintendent at Brainard, and from 1910 until 1911 was superintendent at Dwight. In 1909 he was vice-president of the Northwest Teachers Association.

Since 1915 Dr. Srb has been in active practice. He is also an extensive land owner. He is a Republican, and chairman of the township board.

On November 25, 1914, he was married to Agnes Martha Sabata at David City. She was born at Dwight, May 1, 1892, and was a public school teacher before her marriage. Her parents were pioneer settlers in Butler County. Dr. and Mrs. Srb have three children, Ellen, born in 1915; Hannah, in 1917; and Mary, in 1928.

On September 25, 1918, Dr. Srb was commissioned first lieutenant in the United States Army, Medical Corps and was discharged on December 27, 1918. He was chairman of the Red Cross drive of 1918. He is a member of Rejda Post of the American Legion at Brainard, and was offered a captaincy in the Medical Reserve Corps, which he refused.

His professional organizations include, the American Medical Association, and the Nebraska State and Butler County Medical Society. He is a member of the Mason and Shrine, and for ten years has been chairman of the board of education. He is a member of the David City Golf Club, and his hobby is wild flowers. Residence: Dwight.


Charles Elof Staberg

A pioneer farmer in Phelps County, Nebraska, Charles Elof Staberg was born at Motala, Sweden, September 11, 1862, the son of Herman and Maria Charlotte (Nordstrom) Staberg.

His father, who was also a farmer, was born at Motala, July 4, 1838, and died at Loomis, Nebraska, November 16, 1893. He homesteaded in Phelps County Nebraska in 1879; His mother was born at Stockholm, Sweden, August 28, 1839, and died at Loomis, November 28, 1893.

Mr. Staberg has been farming the original Staberg homestead since 1893. The original sod house on the homestead stood until 1892, when it was replaced with the present home.

His marriage to Lydia Maria Edholm occurred at Loomis, November 28, 1901. Mrs. Staberg was born of Swedish parents at Hvetlanda, Sweden, August 16, 1868. Mrs. Staberg is very active in the affairs of her church, and is especially interested in her home.

Mr. Staberg is affiliated with the Westmark Evangelical Church. His hobby is reading. In 1896 he served as district supervisor, in Phelps County. Residence: Loomis.


Ward Alan Stacy

Ward Alan Stacy was born June 18, 1883, on a farm near Edgar, Nebraska, and today operates the same farm. His father, Wright Milo Stacy, who homesteaded in Nebraska in the early days, was born at Painesville, Lake County, Ohio, January 15, 1850, and died at Edgar, Clay County, Nebraska, January 21, 1930; he was the son of Abyram and Puah (Stephens) Stacy, natives of New York. His mother was born at Baraboo, Sank County, Wisconsin, October 2, 1856, the daughter of Asa and Jane (Tripp) Cole. She was a teacher before her marriage. Asa Cole, who was born in Michigan, was a mason by trade.

Mr. Stacy attended rural school in Clay County and in 1900 was graduated from the high school at Davenport, Nebraska. He worked on his father's farm for two years and in 1904 entered the University of Nebraska where he was a student for two years. He played with the cadet band at the university; he was president of the senior class in high school.

He is secretary of the Farmers Union Co-operative Association of Ong, Nebraska, and is secretary of the Davenport and Ong Co-operative Telephone Company. During 1930 Mr. Stacy served as president of the local Parent Teachers Association. He is a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, is affiliated with the Methodist Episcopal Church, and holds membership in the Nebraskana Society. During the World War he was a member of the Home Guard and was active in the third loan drive.

Mr. Stacy's father homesteaded in Clay County in 1871 and was one of the few early settlers to hold his land until death.

Ward Allan Stacy was united in marriage with Lillie May Johnson at Davenport, December 12, 1906. Mrs. Stacy was born at Shickley, Filmore County, Nebraska, July 10, 1883, the daughter of Henry G. and Matilda (Hilgren) Johnson. Her parents were both born in Sauna, Iowa. To this marriage the following children were born: Lorena Ruth, June 20, 1908, who married Owen Powell at Ong, Nebraska, January 3, 1929; Dorothy Lillian, on March 29, 1911, who married Clair Franson, at home on June 13, 1931; Opal Matilda, July 3, 1912; Alvera May, December 18, 1915; and Wright Henry, February 28, 1917. Residence: Edgar.


Ben Lynn Stahl

Born in Red Willow County, Nebraska, February 10, 1896, Ben Lynn Stahl has spent nearly all his life since leaving school in the lumber business. He is the son of Abraham Lincoln and Lillian (Loughridge) Stahl, both natives of Washington, Iowa. Abraham Lincoln Stahl was born on October 17, 1859, of German descent, and died at Cambridge, Nebraska, on July 21, 1924, after a long and successful life as a farmer.

Lillian Loughridge was born December 4, 1862, of Scotch-Irish extraction. Her entire life was devoted to

her home, her family and to her church. Her death occurred at Cambridge, December 24, 1923.

Ben Lynn Stahl was graduated from rural school in Red Willow County in 1910, and from the Cambridge High School in 1914. With the exception of short periods as a teacher and clothing salesman, he was engaged in the lumber business. Starting with the Perry Lumber Company at Arapahoe, as helper and yard man, he became associated at a later period with the Holdrege Lumber Company as bookkeeper. In 1920, Mr. Stahl came to Nelson as resident manager for Day and Frees, retail lumber and coal dealers.

At the present time Mr. Stahl is secretary of the Nuckolls County Building and Loan Association, a member of the board of directors of the Chamber of Commerce, a member of the American Legion, the Red Cross, the Scottish Rite and Shrine bodies of the Masons, the First Presbyterian Church, and a life member of The Nebraskana Society. He is a Republican.

On August 10, 1921, he was united in marriage to Ida Grace Butler at Muscatine, Iowa. Mrs. Stahl was born at Muscatine, on June 24, 1897. To them were born three daughters, Barbara, September 25, 1923; Marilynn, December 25, 1924; and Eleanor, January 25, 1927.

During the World War period Mr. Stahl served in the United States Navy. Enlisting in the Hospital Corps on June 11, 1917, he was thereafter transferred to naval aviation, and was discharged on July 19, 1919, with the rank of Quartermaster First Class Aviation. Mr. Stahl's only hobby is reading and study. Residence: Nelson.


William Arnold Stahl

William A. Stahl, retired farmer and banker of Wymore, Gage County, Nebraska, has lived in this state for the past 43 years. He was born at Washington, Washington County, Iowa, November 19, 1857, the son of Zachariah and Nancy (Warfel) Stahl. His father, a farmer, was born at Lancaster, Pennsylvania, December 25, 1810, and died at Washington, July 25, 1876; his ancestors were German. His mother was born at Lancaster, November 21, 1815, and died at Washington, Iowa, April 18, 1894.

Mr. Stahl is a Mason, a member of the Modern Woodmen of America, and is affiliated with the Nebraskana Society. He is a Republican.

He was united in marriage with Martha Ann Custer at Washington January 12, 1881. Mrs. Stahl, who was a teacher before her marriage, was born at Washington, October 23, 1859, of Scotch parentage. They have two children: Guy, born October 30, 1881; and Vena, born September 4, 1890. Residence: Wymore.


Alvah H. Staley

A prominent Nebraska educator, and at the present time superintendent of schools at Hastings, Alvah H. Staley was born in Branch County, Michigan, January 4, 1873. His father, Fredrick Staley was a native of Crawford County, Ohio, whose parents came from Germany. As a young man he migrated to Branch County, Michigan, where he engaged in farming. Sarah Jameson, wife of Fredrick Staley was a Scotch Covenantor.

Alvah H. Staley attended the rural schools of Branch County, and later was a student in the preparatory department of the Tri-State Normal College at Angola, Indiana. Upon his graduation from the Tri-State Normal College in 1895, he taught two years at Huntertown, Indiana, and then two years at Long Pine, Nebraska. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1895 from Tri-state Normal. After four years of teaching Mr. Staley entered the University of Nebraska, where he remained two years, received a Bachelor of Arts degree from that institution in 1901.

For six years he was superintendent of schools at Friend, and for eleven years at Superior. During 1918-19, he was assistant professor in charge of teacher training at the University of Nebraska, where he also took post graduate work. He has also had post graduate study at Columbia University, and is a member of Phi Kappa Delta. Since 1920, Mr. Staley has been superintendent of schools at Hastings. It is interesting to note that his teaching experience during the past thirty years has been confined to a radius of 100 miles.

A member of the Nebraska State Teachers Association, he has served as its president one year, as its treasurer three years, and as president of District Four one year.

Mr. Staley is also a member of the National Education Association, the Parest-Teachers' Association, the Young Men's Christian Association (board member), the Red Cross (board member and former chairman), and the First Presbyterian Church. He is a Scottish Rite Mason and Shriner, a member of the Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club, and is the proud possessor of a letter signed by President Wilson commending him for active service in loan drives and other services during the World War.

Fond of golf and tennis, Mr. Staley is a member of the Hillside Golf Club. He is politically independent. On September 3, 1902, he was united in marriage to Helen Teresa Browne, at Lincoln. Mrs. Staley, who is of English and German descent, was born in Lincoln, October 1, 1881. They have a son and a daughter: Eugene, born July 3, 1906; and Helen, born June 7, 1914.

Eugene is assistant professor in the department of economics at the University of Chicago; he was graduated from Hastings High School in 1922; he received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Hastings College in 1925; after three and one-half years study at the University of Chicago, he was awarded his degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the field of economics. As a result of his research in this field he prepared a book entitled, A History of the Illinois State Federation of Labor which was published in 1929 by the University of Chicago Press. From 1929 to 1931 he did research work in Europe under a scholarship from the Social Science Research Council of the United States. Irvin Abner Stalmaster

Irvin Abper Stalmaster, lawyer, and judge, was born at Odessa, Russia, June 5, 1897. He is the son of Louis and Esther (Forman) Stalmaster, the former born at Bardichev, Russia, February 17, 1869, and the latter born at Kishinev, Russia, August 5, 1875.

Educated in the public schools of Davenport, Iowa, he was graduated from Creighton University with an LL. M. from the University of Omaha in 1930. Since his admission to the bar, in the space of ten years, Mr. Stalmaster has gone far, both in legal practice and in the political world. A Republican, he served as judge of the district court from April 1928-January 1929; he was assistant county attorney of Douglas County from January 1924-December 1927, and assistant attorney general of Nebraska from January 1929 to date. In November, 1928, he was made a member of the Supreme Court of Nebraska, by invitation of the justices.

From 1924-30 he was associated with Sam Beber in the practice of law, under the firm name of Stalmaster and Beber; in 1931 the firm was re-organized under the firm name of Fradenburg, Stalmaster and Beber, in association with Joseph B. Fradenburg. Mr. Stalmaster is the, author of two books, The Jury System and What Price Jury Trials? He is president and director of the Omaha Fixture and Supply Company, and instructor in Constitutional Law at Municipal University.
