lived until 1881 when they moved to Omaha. One year later the Van Nostrand family came to Tekamah, reaching here in the month of May. Mr. Van Nostrand has been a continuous resident here since that time. He is a marble and granite cutter and conducts a large granite works in this city.
   Mr. Van Nostrand was united in marriage June 11th, 1892 to Miss Abbie L. Christy, of Cincinnati, Ohio.

   WILLARD E. BROOKINGS was born May 24th, 1858, at Woolwich, Maine. He came to Tekamah June 4th, 1881, and has been a citizen here since that date. For a number of years he was engaged in clerking but in April, 1890, engaged in the grocery business for himself, in which he has been very successful.
   Mr. Brookings has been called upon repeatedly by the citizens of the city to serve on the city council and held that position from 1897 to 1903. He also served three years in the Nebraska State Militia as a member of Co. H, 2nd Regt.
   Mr. Brookings was united in marriage May 13th, 1901, to Miss Lotta J. Bean, of this city.

   ISAIAH LUKENS was born in Philadelphia, Pa., September 28th, 1864. In 1880 he came west, going first to Los Vegas, N. M. After remaining there one year he came to Nebraska remaining at different points in this state until 1887 when he returned to Philadelphia. He again came to Nebraska in the year 1891, locating at Herman. Here he remained until 1897 when he came to Tekamah and has been a prominent citizen of this city since that date.
   Mr. Lukens is a physician of high standing in his profession, graduating from Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, in 1890. He has held the position of City Health officer for a number of years and is also the County Health officer.
   Mr. Lukens was united in marriage to Miss Anna M. Bell, August 6th, 1886.

   HAMILTON NESBIT MORROW was born April 6th, 1875, at Ballibay, Pennsylvania, where he grew to manhood. He graduated from the Susquehanna Colegiate (sic) Institute, Towanda, Penn., June 13th, 1895, and the year following was principal of the New Albany High School. September 15th, 1896, he came to Tekamah and after remaining here one year, took up the study of medicine at Rush Medical College, Chicago, Illinois, from which he graduated in 1901. Mr. Morrow came to Tekamah after his graduation and entered upon the practice of his profession, taking a standing at once among those high in the ranks.
   Mr. Morrow was united in marriage to Miss Edythe H. Trowbridge, June 10th, 1903.

   VALENTINE SCHAEFER was born February 4th, 1848, in Germany. He came to the United States in 1857 and settled in Wayne county, Iowa, where he lived until coming to Oakland, this county, June 12th, 1886. At Oakland Mr. Schaefer practiced as a veterinary surgeon for three years after which he entered the Chicago Veterinary College, graduating in 1891. Prior to taking up the practice of this profession Mr. Schaefer had been a blacksmith. After graduation he returned to Oakland where he practiced his profession until January, 1892, when he went to Ottumwa, Iowa, where he remained until August 16th, 1893, when he became a resident of Tekamah, residing here continuously since that time.
   Mr. Schaefer stands very high in his profession, he served for two years as president of the Nebraska Veterinary Association and vice-president of the Missouri Valley Veterinary Association. He has calls to all parts of the state on difficult cases.
   Mr. Schaefer was united in marriage August 25th, 1886, to Elizabeth Heilman.

   GEORGE W. DOUGLASS was born in Tekamah, October 15th, 1858, in a house which stood on the corner now occupied by E. C. Houston & Co., and he
