| GUARDING LINES OF COMMUNICATIONSA blockhouse built by men from Michigan and Wisconsin of Comapny I, 339th Infantry, 85th Division, to guard a railroad yard in North Russia. The blockhouse was necessary not only as a protection for soldiers from enemy attacks, but also to shelter them from the severe winter weather.
