THIS WAS A FOREST
During the first day of the St. Mihiel drive the American Infantry advanced more than ten miles, captured 14,500 prisoners and over 400 guns. They fought on all night and by seven the next morning the salient was wiped out.
 
ONE MAN DOWN
Soldiers of the 107th Inf., 27th Div., advancing along a path through enemy barbed wire, just opened by a tank. One man has fallen—there he must lie while machine guns whine—hoping stretcher bearers will find him at night.
