THE ARTILLERY ADVANCES BEHIND THE INFANTRY
As the infantry gained ground, the artillery moved up, took new positions and continued to hurl the shells of death and destruction. The town was previously reduced to bare walls and burned timbers by a German bombardment.
 
EVERY MAN FOR HIMSELF
The rotten woods were filled with dead men, dead horses, with excrement and the garbage of armies. Through this, Sergeant F. A. Hussey, leading the patrol, advances with extreme caution, his automatic always ready.
