Hess, Charles (11 MAR 1868 - 8 JUN 1915)

Charles Hess, for many years a resident of this vicinity, died at his home in the town of Colby, Clark Co., Wis., Tuesday evening at 9 o’clock, of cancer of the stomach. The funeral will be held at the Emmanuel Reform Church at 2 p.m. Friday. He was forty seven years old. Obituary next week.

Charles Hess, who died at his farm in the town of Colby, Tuesday evening, June 8th, 1915, of cancer of the stomach, was born in Germany March 11th, 1868. He came to this country at the age of 15 years, settling in Waukesha County, Wis., where he resided until Dec. 1894, when he came to Colby and purchased and settled on the Margraf farm, where he continued to reside until his death. He was an industrious worker and highly esteemed by his neighbors and friends. He was united in marriage to Victoria Waibel in Sept. 1903, who with one son, and his daughter Edna by his first wife, survive to mourn his death.

Fred Hess and daughter of Watertown; Louis Waibel and wife, Mrs. Fred Conrad, and Miss Edna Hess, of Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Will Conrad of Withee; Mr. and Mrs. Emil Schultz of Auburndale, were the out of town relatives who were here to attend the funeral which was held Friday afternoon, June 11th, from Emmanuel Reform Church, Rev. Bruenoehler officiating. Interment in Colby Cemetery.
