Leona Raether was born 4 July 1912, only daughter of Arthur and Laura Ann Beckman Raether. Her father Arthur Raether, born 1883, died on 26 Nov 1928 of lobar pneumonia. Laura Beckman Raether (1890/1951) next married Oscar Nelson (1902/1937). Leona Raether Vetterkind died 9 June 2001.
