Darton, Caryl (04 JUNE 1949)

The Trinity Lutheran church at Unity, Wisconsin was the scene of a spring wedding at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 4, when Miss Caryl Jean Darton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Darton of Loyal became the bride of Merlin Bender, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Bender, also of Loyal. The Rev. J. A. Olsen officiated at the double ring ceremony.

"I Love You Truly: and "Lead Us, Savior" were sung by Miss Vergene Olsen and LaVern Dahlby of Eau Claire. They were accompanied by Miss Eunice Langholz. The wedding march was played by Mrs. Henry Binning.

The bride given in marriage by her father, chose a gown of sheer ninon over satin, fashioned with a long lace-edged train, long sleeves pointed at the wrists, and a lace trimmed yoke. Her fingertip veil, edged with lace, was caught to a crown of rhinestones and seed pearls. She wore a three strand pearl necklace, a gift of the groom, and carried a shower bouquet of white roses, lilies of the valley and pink sweet peas.

Attending the bride were misses Joan Bender, Shirley Dobbe and Marlene Toltzman. All were attired in sheer marquisette frocks, styled with three-tiered hoop skirts, matching mits and large picture hats. Miss Bender, sister of the groom, as maid of honor wore blue, and the bridesmaids, Miss Dobbe, a friend, and Miss Toltzman, a cousin of the bride, wore yellow. They wore single strand pearls and pearl earrings, gifts of the bride, and carried cascade bouquets of carnations.

Miss Donna Lou Darton was her sister’s junior bridesmaid, wearing an orchid frock, styled identical to those worn by the other attendants, with a matching bonnet. She wore a pearl necklace and bracelet and carried a miniature bouquet of carnations.

The groom was attended by Bud Schlinsog, who acted as besr man, and Roger Nichoff, cousin of the bride, and Bob Bertz, as groomsmen. Ted Schlinsog and Wayne Schulz ushered.

Following the ceremony, a 4 o’clock dinner was served to about 100 guests in the church basement. A dance was held (rest of article unavailable)
