Deutsch, Gustave C. (20 March 1875 - 10 December 1965)
Gustave C. Deutsch, 90, of Neillsville, a long time Neillsville resident, died here Friday. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the Georgas Funeral Home. The Rev. W. C. Koehler of the United Church of Christ officiated. Burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.
Mr. Deutsch was born March 20, 1875, in Neillsville. He attended Neillsville schools, graduating from High School in 1892. At the time of his death, he was one of the oldest graduates of the school. He taught school from 1898-1903, then worked in the old Neillsville Furniture Factory, and later in various stores in Wisconsin as a clerk.
He operated a general merchandise store in Granton before returning to Neillsville, where he operated the Northside Store for 18 years.
Mr. Deutsch was active in Masonic work and was maintenance man at the Masonic Temple for 15 years. He also served as poor commissioner and cemetery commissioner for the city of Neillsville for 25 years.
He had been in failing health for the last five years, and had been a resident of Memorial Home in Neillsville since October, 1963. He was married July 29, 1913, to the former Bertha Goebel in Granton. He was a member of the United Church of Christ.
Surviving are his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Norman (Nancy) Neilsen of St. Louis, Mo.; Mrs. Norman (Beatrice) Larkin of Black River Falls, and Mrs. William (Josephine) Conlee of Waukesha. Other survivors are 6 grandchildren.
Pallbearers were: John Larkin, Hubert and Harold Dudei, Wilbert Goebel, Mark and Richard Conlee. Masonic rites at the graveside were under the direction of Milo Mabie.
Ellis Wall sang, "Lead Kindly Light" and "Abide with Me" accompanied by Mrs. Jess W. Scott.
People from out of town here for the service were: Mr. and Mrs. William Conlee and sons of Waukesha; Mr. and Mrs. Norman Neilson of St. Louis, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. Norman Larkin and family, Mr. and Mrs. E. Holmsted of Black River Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Neilsen, Miss Nancy Scaaf, Gail and Janey Larkin, all of Eau Claire; Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Garbisch, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Krause, Mr. and Mrs. George Beyer, Wilbert Goebel, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Goebel, Carl Goebel, Mr. and Mrs. Herb Dudei and Mrs. Anna Dudei, all of Granton.

Gustave Carl Deutsch was born 30 March 1875, in Neillsville, Clark, WI, United States. He married Bertha M. Goebel, July 29, 1913, in Granton, Wisconsin. When he passed away just before Christmas in 1965, he was buried in the Neillsville, WI City cemetery.
