John R. Sturdevant, a Civil War veteran, was an early pioneer of Clark county and served as a local judge in the Neillsville area for many years. He was born in 1844, died on the fourth of July in 1929 and is buried with his wife, Mary in the Neillsville City Cemetery, Pine Valley Twp. in Clark County, Wisconsin. Mary was born 31 July 1844 and died 15 Feb. 1930. Their son, Claude, an attorney, and his wife, Jesse Ruane Flynn, are likewise buried in the same cemetery. Claude died 10 Nov. 1946 and Jesse died 3 Mar. 1961. They were married in Clark County on 19 June 1901.
