Edgar and Elizabeth Houghton were residents of Humbird,
Mentor Twp., Clark Co. Wisconsin when the 1880 Federal Census was taken. They
were farmers. At that time, Edgar was 35 years old. He and both of his
parents were born in New York. Elisabeth was 34 years old and she moved to Clark
County, Wisconsin with her from Ohio where she and they were born. Their
daughter, Mary, was born in Wisconsin and at the age of thirteen, was attending
school. Their 5 year old son, Ira was also attending school.
Edgar was a Civil War Veteran who served as County Treasurer of Clark County in Neillsville, Wisconsin and the family resided there during the late 1880s. He traveled widely, visiting friends and relatives throughout the west.
January 11, 1902, Elizabeth died of consumption in Neillsville.
March 24, 1903, Edgar married Alice E. Wells in Coral, Illinois.
