Asa Lester Sires

Born in Wisconsin, Asa Sires moved to Great Falls, Montana by 1900, where he apparently married Rosa Fillion shortly after the census, and they had their first child. They moved to Michigan and had several more children. They were in Houghton County, MI in 1910 and 1918, and in Flint, MI in 1920 and 1930.

Asa has been listed as a child of Alexander and Mary Ann Sires, but he never gave parents’ birthplaces which matched theirs in any census.  A citation from O’Dell’s Abstracted Newspaper Index provides a link to his parents, David and Ellen (Webster) Sires:

Straight, Ella (Mrs) and son Asa Sires to Missoula, Mont. BFP 29 Oct 1896

Ellen Webster married David Sires 11 May 1872 in Jackson County, WI. In the 1900 census of Bedford, Taylor, Iowa, Ellen Straight is in the household of her parents, Asel [Asa] and Emily Webster.  Another census record, which probably shows Ellen with Asa is the 1895 Wisconsin State Census of Garden Valley, Jackson, WI which lists Mrs. Straight, 1 male, 1 female, both b. U.S.
