Joseph J. Wavrunek, 82, Neillsville, Clark County, passed away
suddenly at the Neillsville Memorial Hospital in Neillsville
Tuesday, April 9, 1985 at 11:52 a.m.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, April 12, 1985 at 10:30
a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Joseph N. Henseler
officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's catholic Cemetery in
Neillsville. St. Mary's Choir sang and Virginia Gassen was the
accompanist. Pallbearers were Martine Feuerstein, Ray Burr, Joe
Resong, John Resong, Everett Skroch and Ellis Wall.
Mr. Wavrunek was born June 26, 1902 in Ashland to Thomas J.
Wavrunek and Margaret (nee Wochos) Wavrunek. He received his
elementary education in Osseo and then graduated from high school
in Rice Lake. He attended college at Eau Claire and business school
in LaCrosse. He worked at Ladysmith for the Rusk County Abstract
Co. and then taught school at several schools in Clark Co. After
serving in the National Guard at Camp Custer in Battle Creek, Mich.
in 1923 and at Camp Ripley, Minn. In 1924. He married Edna G.
Collins on Oct 25, 1933 in Thorp. After his marriage he worked for
the Clark Jackson County public assistance programs in 1934-36. He
then moved to Neillsville where he worked for the Clark Co.
Register of Deeds for several years. Since 1945 he has been owner
operator of Clark County Abstract Co., Inc. in Neillsville. He has
served for over 20 years as an alderman for the city of
Neillsville. He and his wife celebrated their golden wedding
anniversary in 1983.
He was a member of St. Mary's catholic Church, Holy Name Society
and the Catholic Order of Foresters.
He is survived by his wife five children, Mrs. Norbert (Audrey)
Speier, Appleton, James J. Wavrunek, New Holstein, Thomas A.
Wavrunek, Neillsville, Bernard R. Wavrunek, Colby, Mrs. Arnie
(Kathleen) Pichler, Eau Claire one sister, Mrs. Fred (Jennie) Haut,
Neillsville and 15 grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one
sister.
Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville handled arrangements.
