Rear, Oscar (18 MAR 1891 - 12 APR 1952)

Word was received here by Mrs. John Wuethrich of the death of Oscar Rear, 61, former Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.) resident, which occurred at Milwaukee on Saturday, April 12, 1952. The cause of death was a cerebral hemorrhage.

Funeral services will be held at Blanchardville on Thursday, April 17th.

He is survived by hsi wife, two sons, Grant of Eau Claire and Wayne of Milwaukee, and a daughter, Mrs. Arnold (Twila) Dueysen of Milwaukee.

Rear, Oscar (18 MAR 1891 - 13 APR 1952)

Oscar Rear was born March 18, 1891 at Blanchardville, Wis., son of Gulick and Carrie Rear. He was baptized and confirmed at Adams Lutheran Church near Blanchardville.

On Nov. 15, 1911 he was united in marriage to Bertha Christina Erickson at the church in Blanchardville by the Rev. Urdahl. In 1906 the young couple moved to Greenwood (Clark Co.), Wis. In 1938 they moved to Milwaukee.

Three children were born to this union (Mrs. Arnold (Twila) Dueysen of Milwaukee; Grant of Eau Claire and Wayne of Milwaukee. From 1938 to 1952 he and his family continued to reside in Milwaukee.

On Tuesday, April 8, 1952 he suffered a slight stroke. On Friday evening, April 12, 1952 he suffered a second attack and passed away on Saturday morning, April 13, 1952 at 2:00 o'clock, at the age of 61 years, 3 weeks and 4 days. His parents, one brother and two sisters preceded him in death.

He was active member of Kingo Lutheran Church of Milwaukee and was a member of the Church Council serving in the office of deacon. He was also a member of the Milwaukee chapter of the Sons of Norway.

He is survived by his wife, Bertha, two sons, Grant and Wayne, and one daughter, Mrs. Arnold (Twila) Dueysen; three sisters, Mrs. Ned (Anna) Thompson of Mt Horeb, Wis.; Mrs. Henry (Alma) Anderson of Argyle, Wis.; Mrs. Thomas Slotton of Belleville, Wis.; five brothers, Clifford of Verona, Wis.; Bernett of Argyle, Wis., Ernest of Belleville, Wis.; Orville of Monroe, Wis., and Julian of Argyle, Wis., and three grandchildren, Grant Jr. and Gary Rear and Robert Dueysen.

Funeral services were held in Milwaukee on Wednesday, April 16 at 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday, April 17 services were held at the Adams Lutheran Church, Blanchardville, with Rev. A.P. Anderson of Argyle and Rev. A.E. Neva of Milwaukee officiating. He was laid to rest in the Adams Cemetery.

Those from Greenwood who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Palmer Vinger and Mr. and Mrs. Tom Erickson (Brother and sister-in-law of Bertha Anderson/Erickson Rear).
