A Colby couple was married on Friday, September 16, 1977 at St. Mary’s Catholic
Church, Colby, during a 7 p.m. ceremony. The Rev. Francis Rushman performed the
ceremony for Donna Mae Weigel and Larry A. Schmidt. Parents of the couple are
Mr. and Mrs. Herman Weigel, Colby, and Mr. and Mrs. Claude Sossaman, Route 1,
Unity.
The bride wore a white satin gown with a fingertip veil. Her flowers were pink
roses, white carnations, lily of the valley, blue forget-me-nots and Stephanotis
formed in a cascade.
Debbie Schmidt, Route 1, Unity, the bridegroom’s sister, was maid of honor. She
wore a yellow gown with a shawl. Her bouquet matched her gown.
Dennis Weis, an uncle of the bride, was best man. James Weigel and Dennis
Sossaman were ushers.
A dance and lunch followed at the VFW Hall in Colby.
The couple are both graduates of Colby High School.
She is a dietary aid and he is employed at S and K Daley, Colby. They will
reside in Colby.

St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Colby, was the scene Saturday, September 17, 1977,
of the marriage of Sharon Babulski, Unity, niece of Mrs. Helen Florowski, Unity,
and Tom Pessinski, Spencer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Pessinski, Spencer. The
Rev. Francis Rushman performed the 1:30 p.m. rites.
Attendants were Rosemary Pessinski, sister of the bridegroom, and Ron Pessinski,
brother of the bridegroom. Ushers were John and Jeff Fillo, Thorp, cousins of
the bride.
A white Visa A-line gown with an empire waist was worn by the bride. The
full-length sleeves, neckline and bodice were trimmed with lace. She wore a
waist length veil and carried a bouquet of white carnations and baby’s breath.
Her attendant’s gown was a deep yellow A-line with a scoop neckline and midriff
band. She carried a single yellow carnation.
A reception followed at St. Mary’s School at 4 p.m., with a dance at the Unity
Legion Hall.
Pessinski is employed by Ted Meisner and Sons, and the bride is a nurse’s aide.
The couple will live in Abbotsford.

Trinity Lutheran Church, Unity, was the setting September 17, 1977 for the
marriage of Barbara Rogers and Ronald Geiger, Colby, with the Reverend Elton
Moore officiating.
Barbara is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Galen Rogers, Unity, and Ronald Geiger
is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Geiger, Colby.
Maid of honor was Mrs. Connie Geiger, Colby, bridesmaid Miss Carol Weigel,
Colby,, flower girl Lori Rogers, Unity, ring bearer Kevin Radue, Spencer, best
man Dennis Geiger, Colby, and groomsman Kevin Rogers, Unity.
Ushers were Gary Rogers, Hillsboro, Kansas, Jeff Rogers, Unity, and Robert
Geiger, Colby.
The bride was attired in a white princess styled dress with sweetheart neckline,
contrasting dotte Swiss yolk and sleeves, with ruffled train. She carried pink
and red roses with white carnations on a white lace fan.
The attendants wore princess styled dresses with sweetheart necklines, large
ruffle on the bottom, with maid of honor in tangerine and the bridesmaid in
yellow, with matching picture hats. They carried baskets of mixed fall flowers.
Music for the ceremony was by Mrs. Rhonda Buss. “A Time for Us” and “O Perfect
Love” were sung by Mrs. Marilyn Lee, Rochester, Minnesota.

Mrs. Peter (Sophie) Straub, 80, died at 11:10 a.m. Tuesday, September 20, 1977
at her home in Abbotsford.
Funeral services were held Thursday at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in
Abbotsford, with Father Emil Hodnik officiating. Burial was in Gate of Heaven
Cemetery in Marshfield.
Friends were able to call Wednesday at Kraut-Maurina Funeral Home in Abbotsford.
A parish rosary was recited.
The former Sophie Pabich was born April 30, 1897 in Beaver Dam. She married
Peter Straub on January 7, 1939 in Milwaukee. They lived in Dancy, where they
farmed until moving to Marshfield. After her husband’s death she moved to
Abbotsford.
She was a member of St. Bernard’s Church and honorary member of its Altar
Society.
Survivors include on sister, Mrs. Helen Smigaj, Abbotsford, and three brothers,
Frank Pabich, Abbotsford, Peter Pabich, Owen, and Michael Pabich, South
Milwaukee.
Pallbearers for Mrs. Straub were: Steve Smigaj, Jim Hollman, Leonard Singer,
Dave Smigaj, Jerry Pabich and Patrick Pabich.

The Tieman Family of Thorp recently had their farm
recognized for being a century old by the Sesquicentennial
& Century Farm Program at the 2023 Wisconsin State Fair.
The event surpassed expectations with 525 guests in
attendance.
The Tieman Family Farm was established in 1910 in the
Butler Township. The Century Farm Awards Program
began in 1948 as part of Wisconsin's Centennial
Celebration. Today the program honors families who have
had continuous ownership of their Wisconsin farm for 100
years or more. For the past 49 years, Hillshire Farm of New
London, Wisconsin, has sponsored the Awards Program.
Compeer Financial is also a proud sponsor of the Awards
Program.
On Tuesday, August 8, during the 2023 Wisconsin State
Fair, Hillshire Farm and Compeer Financial recognized 81
Century Farm families. To date, more than 9,900 Century
Farms have been honored since the program's inception.
On hand to receive their certificate and recognition for
being a Century Farm were: Renee (Disch)
Schoff, David Schoff, Connor Tieman, Carter Tieman,
Shari Tieman, Mitchell Tieman and Zachary Tieman,

home Sunday.
News: Eidsvold School Begins for 1910-11
School began in Dist. No. 4 on Monday with Miss Florence Hamman o f Worden as
teacher.
Lisle Robeson and Frank maker of Stanley were calling Arthur Sayles Saturday.
The Roger Creek School began on Monday. Hildegarde Shilts of Stanley teaches
again this year.
R. B. Brown and family were enjoying our good roads here with their auto-buggy
Wednesday.
Andrew Eiler went to Gilman Saturday where he was a visitor with his daughter,
Mrs. Florence Carey.
Win. Brown o f Stanley is laying a stone wall for a large barn which Chas.
Tornrose will build next year.
Miss Emma Reuge of Neillsville returned to her school duties here on Monday
after the usual summer vacation.
Miss Irene Kass is visiting her uncle, Jim Kerns, and is incidentally doing some
camping out Along Yellow River.
John Smart, who has been undergoing treatment at St. Joseph’s hospital in
Chippewa returned home on Monday.
Mrs. Rebecca Prouty, of Maplehurst and Airs. Geo. VanGorder of Reseburg were
calling on Mrs. Bill Warner Thursday.
Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Brown and Mrs. Winnie Rosin and son Ronald of Thorp were
callers at the S. S. Warner home Sunday evening.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Krueger, Colby, celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary at
the Curtiss Community Hall September 24, 1977. They were married September 22,
1937.
Mrs. Krueger, the former Ethel Mengel, Loyal, and her husband have four
children. They are Mrs. Vincent (Dorothy) Vignulo, New Brunswick, New Jersey,
Fred, Owen, Mrs. Kenneth (Ethyl Alice) Olke, Colby, and Mrs. Terry (Betty Ann)
Kayhart, Colby.
The Kruegers farmed for Harold Christensen, in the Colby area for many years.
Krueger retired in 1971, having worked for six years for Wicks Building,
Spencer.
Mrs. Clarence Werling, who was an original bridesmaid, attended the festivities.
She is a sister of Mrs. Krueger. A niece, Mrs. Bernice Raczykowski baked the
three-tiered cake.
Guests attended from Colby, Curtiss, Owen, Merrill, Wausau, Loyal, Brentwood,
Neillsville and Marshfield.
