Biographical Sketch

 

 

Henry William Hunt was born at Hazel Green, Grant Co., Wisconsin, on the fifth day of November, 1853.  He lived with his parents until he was nine years of age. He was the son of Capt. Charles A. and Amanda Melvina (Ray) Hunt.  Charles was a miller by trade, and who was born in Chautauqua, New York in 1829, and moved to Melvina, Wisconsin, in 1862, just prior to his enlistment in the Great Civil War.  The village they lived in was named Melvina in honor of Henry's mother.  Here Henry helped his father in the milling business for about ten years, when he went west and spent about one year in the state of Nebraska, returning to Wisconsin. "H. W." Hunt then taught a few terms of school, and on the 30th of March, 1873, married Mary Joscelyne, at Melvina, by which union seven children were born, five boys and two girls, one of the girls, Clella, dying at the age of one year in 1888.  Their son, Clarence Melzer Hunt who was born March 10, 1875 and the year of the advertisement above (1900), married Edna J. Neverman of Neillsville.  Clarence died June 25, 1949.  H. W. and his wife and children are buried in the Greenwood, Wisconsin City Cemetery.
