EMIL KOLSTAD

Emil Kolstad, the oldest living confirmant of our church, was born in Trondhjem, Norway on July 31, 1880 to Ingebregt and Karen Koistad. The family came to America in 1883 and settled on a farm one and one half miles northeast of Greenwood, now occupied by the Bernard Kitzhaber family. He was baptized in Norway. On August 5, 1894, he was one of six confirmants to be confirmed in the Red Schoolhouse two miles northeast of Greenwood by the Rev. Berntzen. On June 15, 1910 he was married to Alma Rosen in the home of his parents by the Rev. A. B. Dyre. His sister Julia, was married at the same time to Victor Krokson. Emil and Alma continued to live on his home farm until 1922 wher they moved to their present home four and one half miles west of Greenwood There were two children: Everett who lives in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, an( Arthur who lives with his father. Mrs. Koistad passed away in 1960.
