An industry, and one of the leading
ones, was the Humbird Roller Mills, whose specialty of buckwheat flower was well known
in all the markets. It was one of the finest best kept
small mills in the country.
1908
Charles Hackney
was well known to Humbird residents, having lived
there some thirty years while engaging in the hotel
business, keeping hotel in the old building near the
depot, which was taken down in 1907. Mr.
Hackney left the area in 1878, going to Nebraska and
soon thereafter locating at Ashland.

1917
A pea-canning factory was started in Humbird by
people from Whitewater, Wis., and was capitalized
for $80,000. They
own a farm of 440 acres and in 1917 raised and canned
300 acres of peas, with plans to grow 500 acres
of peas next year.
