1905

 

An industry, and one of the leading ones, was the Humbird Roller Mills, whose specialty of buckwheat flower was well known in all the markets. It was one of the finest best kept small mills in the country.

 

1908

 

Charles Hackney was well known to Humbird residents, having lived there some thirty years while engaging in the hotel business, keeping hotel in the old building near the depot, which was taken down in 1907.  Mr. Hackney left the area in 1878, going to Nebraska and soon thereafter locating at Ashland.

1917

 

A pea-canning factory was started in Humbird by people from Whitewater, Wis., and was capitalized for $80,000.  They own a farm of 440 acres and in 1917 raised and canned 300 acres of peas, with plans to grow 500 acres of peas next year.
