The Highground Helicopter Expo held May 1
A helicopter prepares to land at The Highground Saturday, May 1, at The Highground Helicopter Expo. Helicopters and military vehicles were displayed at the Expo. (Contributed photos)
A large crowd visited The Highground Saturday, May 1, to see helicopters landing and the Vietnam Era military vehicles on display.
The Replica Liberty Bell tolled as the reading of the names of Wisconsin soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan were read. The Highground brought the helicopters and military vehicles to its park as part of its mission of healing and education.
The Highground recognized Peter Bales of Janesville and Wayne Poppy of New London for flying in their helicopters. The Highground also recognizes Jim Ottman for hauling in the helicopter from the VVA Chapter 331 from Park Falls. Chet Krause, Barry Rosenow and others brought in their military vehicles to be displayed.
A good day was had by all. The Highground is a place for all.
The Highground hosted a helicopter Expo May 1 with Vietnam-era choppers and other military units on display. A 1967 helicopter (above) is owned and flown in by Peter Bales of Janesville (at left in bottom photo) and Jarrett Goodman (right) of Milton. The helicopter was obtained from the San Bernadino Sheriff?s Department in California and is identical to the one flown by Bales while he was on active duty in Vietnam from 1967 to 1971. Bales flew the helicopter with the ACR bandits.
