The Elmer A. Brown Store, Christie, Wis.

Take a look at this store when it was owned by the Hatch family, before the large addition was added to the left side.

1853

In 1853, Samuel F. Weston and David Robinson accompanied by some other men, came from Maine and located at what has since been known as Weston’s Rapids, along the Black River, two miles above Neillsville. They commenced running logs down the river and thus became the first local loggers in Clark County independent of the local mills. Previous loggers had their own saw mills or used the services of a neighboring mill. A mill yard and log-way reserve was set-up on the west river bank.

November 1875

Messrs. Muir & Nelson, of the Town of Weston, are manufacturing everything in the line of coopers’ wares, which they offer to the trade in Clark and adjoining counties for very liberal prices. They have on hand the finest lot of pork barrels ever manufactured in the county, specimens of which can be seen at Dickinson’s store, in this village, where terms, prices and all desired information relating thereto may be obtained.
