History

1856

In Nov. 1856, the towns of Levis and Weston were created, they being the second and third towns of the county, respectively. Levis was named for Mahlon Levis and Weston was named for Samuel F. Weston, each a prominent man in his town.

April 17, 1875: Union Free High School – a proposition the Town of Weston should not turn down. On the 19th of April they will vote for or against this school. By all means vote for it! You can educate your children at home and not worry about their being out nights in the city. The town will save over $1,000 every year in high school tuition. The state pays about $1,600 to this school every year, and the state pays a certain percent for its construction. It will not raise your taxes over $2 on 40 acres. Clark Co. Press

1894

October 1894, a noble deer, with large and beautiful antlers, was shot in West Weston, Will Klopf shot at him three times, Doc. Pitcher four times and Chas. Servaty twice. Although Doc’s bullet did the deed, Klopf got the head and horns, which he had mounted by John Lambert of Taylor. It arrived the other day, looks lifelike and is a beautiful ornament.

1895

Mrs. D. H. Robinson, at Weston’s Rapids, has for sale 12 swarms of bees and some cows.

1899

June 1899: Rudolph Spranger, of the Town of Weston, last Friday contributed 25 large shining dollars toward paying the salary of a game warden in this district.  The donation was made at the suggestion of Justice of the Peace MacBride, who deemed that a sufficient penalty be ensued for the unlawful use of a dip net in a neighboring trout stream.  Violators of the Fish and Game laws are being rounded up all over the state.

1920

April 15, 1920: Wm. Hurlburt and Dan Turville, of East Weston, are two of about the sweetest men in these parts now, having been in the sugar business for the last two weeks. They both keep their mustaches shaved off while handling so much syrup and we never knew before the handsome men they were.

Willis Armitage and wife were the first to venture out on the roads with a car from the Town of Weston this spring. We don’t know how far they went, but they were still moving when they went past Panther Creek.

A petition was presented to the County Board for detaching townships 26 and 27, range 3 west from the Town of Weston and adding them to the Town of Eaton.

November 1882

The Board of Supervisors has appropriated $2,000 to assist the Town of Weston to build an iron bridge across Black River on the road leading west from Robert Christie’s.  Supervisor Harriman informs us that the probable cost will be $3,000 and that an excellent location for the bridge has been found.
