Way Back When

Let the parade begin!  With June Dairy Days and Memorial Day kicking off the parade season, this week’s Way Back When photo brings us a classic car driving down the street in Thorp in a parade, just about to cross the train tracks.  A couple cars are parked along side the road and a woman stands beside her car, watching the parade.  In the background, a sign reads Thorp Flour and Feed. The bottom of the photo dates the photo as July of 1956. Do you know who the men in the car are?  Do you know what they were representing in the parade?  Do you know where the photo was taken from?  Let us know by contacting The Thorp Courier.

Last week, The Thorp Courier used a photo of four young adults as the Way Back When photo for the week. Roger Alger identified the three young men as Roger Podola, Bob Blasel, and Dale Ebben.

On the May 5 issue, the Way Back When photo featured in The Thorp Courier was of a young man in his military uniform. This young man has been identified as Ken Bachmeyer, a WWII veteran in the U. S. Army Air Force.  Bachmeyer was a graduate of Thorp High School in 1947 and spent a year at the University of Wisconsin before enlisting in the U. S. Army Air Force.  The photo was a postwar photo, said to be taken either in 1949 or 1950. Bachmeyer currently lives in Badger, California.
