Harold Bender
February 20, 1905 - April 2, 1976
Harold Bender was the son of Gilbert “Gib” and Minnie Bender from the Township of Grant.[i] Both Harold and his father were carpenters. During the 1930s, Gib Bender help construct the second farm house on the Justin Johnson (Liz Lavey’s father) farm after the original house burned. It was similar to a house that he previously built a year earlier on the Ben Garbisch farm. Harold Bender was also the second husband of Violet Walker (formerly married to a Poziombke), the daughter of Bert and Louise Walker. The Walkers came to York Township in 1919 and owned a farm in Sections 27. Harold and Violet Bender continued to farm the Walker home farm until 1966 when Harold and Violet retired and later moved in 1975 to Owen, Wisconsin.[i]
