Samuel Gibson

November 23, 1815 - August 19, 1892

On the same gravestone of Orpah Gibson are marked the birth and death dates of Samuel L. Gibson, so it is presumed that he is buried there also.  Born in Ohio, Samuel Gibson was a pioneer of York Township and a husband to Orpah Gibson.  It is believed that the Gibsons came to Clark County from Fond du Lac County circa 1870s.  The 1870 Federal Census for Fond du Lac County lists a Samuel Gibson (56) living in Forest Township with his wife, Orpah (49) and a daughter Martha A. (14).  The 1880 Federal, Clark County, York Township Census lists a Samuel Gibson (64) and his wife, Orpah (59).  Their daughter Martha was the wife of Charles H., "Charley" Campbell.  Both Charley and Martha Campbell were also early settlers of York Township.  Martha (nee Gibson) Campbell is buried in Neillsville Cemetery.[i]
