DAILY NEBRASKA STATE JOURNAL, LINCOLN, SUNDAY 5 JUNE 1887 p29
TABULATED LIST
Of the Towns Reviewed in This Issue of the Journal.
The statistics given below were compiled from data received from the Nebraska towns and cities to be found reviewed in this edition of THE JOURNAL. It has been the design to collect in as available a form as possible the leading facts of commercial interest regarding these towns. There are scores of people who are contemplating making a home in the west and engaging in some mercantile pursuit. To these it will be valuable in indicating by an easy comparison the most favorable openings. There are scores of others who could greatly benefit their condition by coming west, did they but fully realize the advantages and resources here awaiting development. To such it is hoped this statement may prove a source of information and stimulate a serious consideration of the opportunities offered. Again, these statistics will prove of special interest to wholesale dealers and manufacturers, showing something of the extent of the patronage upon which they can calculate, and the most advantageous point from which it can be reached.
Producers notes: We have identified the county for your convenience.

It should be remembered that the above list contains by no means all the towns in Nebraska whose trade is naturally tributary to the Capital City. It is safe to say that a complete enumeration would include no less than 300 others. They are no less valuable, however, as a basis of calculation, as they are representative towns found in every part of the state. Lincoln's trade also extends over no inconsiderable territory outside the boundaries of the state. Along the line of the Elkhorn Valley railway no less than twenty towns in Dakota, among which are the important points of Buffalo Gap, Hot Springs, Rapid City, Central City and Deadwood, have direct communications with Lincoln. By state and freight lines as many more are as accessible to Lincoln as any other wholesale point. Along the same line there are at least ten towns in Wyoming; while stage and freight connections include all points in northern Wyoming. The Burlington & Missouri system makes tributary to the Capital city Washington, Cloud, Republic, Phillips, Norton and Decatur counties in Kansas; also into the heart of Colorado and by connecting lines into Utah, New Mexico and Arizona territories. The Missouri Pacific also furnishes direct routes into the heart of the best portion of the state of Kansas, including the counties of Doniphan, Brown, Nemaha, Marshall, Washington, Republic, Cloud, Jewell, Mitchell, Smith, Osborne, Phillips, Rooks and Norton. All points in Wyoming and Colorado on the line of the Union Pacific are in easy communication.
