JEWETT/ JUETT/ JUITT/ SHOCKLEY/
DRISKILL/ REDDISH
Augustus Brown Jewett, (b 1810) m to Joanne
Shockley (b 1814) in Highland Co in April,
1832. They lived in Jackson Twp and after
1840 moved to Greenfield Twp and and then
to Madison Twp. The 1840 census (Reel 403,
M704) has 3 children (correct) with 2 adults
over 60 in household (Parents ? - JEWETT or
SHOCKLEY). The OHIO 1850 census (Reel
694, M432) has the name as JUETT with 6
children as follows: Collins M. (1833),
Cynthann (1836), Columbus C. (6-7-1838),
Samantha J. (1842), James B. (1845),
Eizabeth M. (1848). The family moved to
LOGAN Co, Illinois near the end of 1850 and
was also counted in the census there with an
one more child whose name was Harriet
Levina Jewett that was born in Illinois after
the move. I have all family DATA for
decendants of Christopher. Info for
SHOCKLY parents at

I need to document parents of Augustus, his
death and burial. Our belief is that he died in
early 1850's near LOGAN Co, Illinois near
Elkhart or Middletown. The 1860-Lincoln
Precinct-LOGAN CO, IL census has Joanne
Shockley Jewett with 3 children : Christopher,
Elizabeth and Harriet. Do not know if others
were out of household or deceased as they are
not listed in 1860 Illinois or Ohio Census. Are
there any burial records the sons named
COLLINS M. or JAMES B. Jewett?
Unconfirmed info for girls-married to

to IOWA, then NE.
Are there any JEWETT/ JUETT/ JUITT/

reported to be linked to the JOUETT family in

Augustus Brown JEWETT, (b 1810, Highland
Co, OH) married Joanne SHOCKLEY (b
1814 , Highland Co, OH) in HIGHLAND Co
in April, 1832. They lived in Jackson Twp
and after 1840 moved to Greenfield Twp and
then to Madison Twp. The 1840 HIGHLAND
Co census (Reel 403, M704) has 3 children
(correct) with 2 adults over 60 in household
(Parents ? Jewett or Shockley). Unable to
document the parents for Augustus, his death
or burial. Augustus Jewett/Juett is reported to
be from the JOUETT family in Kentucky but
cannot link to family line. The info for Joanne
Shockley Jewett & her ancestors is well
documented and is located at
(http://www.escape.com/~patpnyc/shock1de.htm).
The 1850 Highland Co, OH census (Reel 694,
M432) has name as JUETT with 6 children.
Collins M. (1833), Cynthann (1836),
Christopher C. (6-7-1838), Samantha J.
(1842), James B. (1845), Eizabeth M.
(10-9-1847).
The Augustus JEWETT family moved to
Logan Co, Illinois at the end of 1850 & they
are also recorded in the 1850 census there
with one addl child named Harriet Levina.
Our belief is that Augustus died in early
1850's in Logan Co, IL. The 1860-Lincoln
Precinct, LOGAN CO, IL. census has Joanne
Shockley Jewett with 2 children, Christopher
& Elizabeth but no mention of Harriet who we
know followed Christopher to Iowa where
both Elizabeth & Harriet were married. Do
not know if others were out of household
(Collins, Cynthann, Samantha, James) or
deceased as could not find documented
elsewhere in 1860 census for OH or IL.
Uncomfirmed - that Cynthann or Elizabeth
married a PERKINS & went to Chicago. Are
there any marriage or burial records for
JEWETT/JUETT - Collins, James, Cynthann,
or Samantha in Highland Co, Ohio or in Logan
& Sangamon Co. Illinois? Also, at this time
Joanne Shockley Jewett is lost as we do not
know if she remarried or died during the Civil
War time period. The enlistment papers for
Christopher who joined the Illinois 2nd
Cavalry on 8-12-1861 lists his home town as
Springfield, IL. I have all family DATA for
decendants of Christopher C. Jewett who
married Miranda Mecay on her fathers farm
(Abel & Mary (Spindler) Mecay) near
Elkhart, Illinois. Christopher & Miranda
moved to Riverton, Fremont Co, Iowa in 1868
& their first child was born there in 1869.
There were 7 children born in Iowa &
Nebraska. Christopher moved to Riverton,
Fremont Co, Iowa where 5 children were born
& then on to Ord, Valley Co, NE where 2
more born. Elizabeth moved to Sidney,
Fremont Co, IA where she married Hugh
HANN on 6-20-1869 and there were 7
children. Harriet moved to Clarinda, Fremont
Co, Iowa where she married Martin Robert
Ansbach from Lorraine, France on 1-8-1871
and there were 3 children.
Are there any JEWETT / JUETT / JUITT /
JOUETT / SHOCKLEY / DRISKELL /
REDDISH or PERKINS still in Highland Co,
Ohio? I would like to locate or exchange
information on AUGUSTUS BROWN
JEWETT and connect with other missing
