Close In the fall of 1955, each Aid disbanded and were united to form a new Ladies Aid under the name Women's Guild of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. Our first meeting was in January 1952 with 52 members present. Officers for our new Aid were President, Mrs. Don Warner; Vice-President, Mrs. Orville Oswald; Secretary, Mrs. William Kavanaugh; and Treasurer, Mrs. John D. Wuethrich. Later, several of our members withdrew to become a part of the Ladies Aid of Calvary Lutheran in Neillsville. Calvary Lutheran was a new congregation with a new church building. Our Pastor Tanner's father had organized that new congregation and was its first pastor until his death. With the merger of the Synods came instructions that all women's groups should henceforth be known as American Lutheran Church Women or in short the ALCW. Many years ago the Trondhjem ladies bought a fleece of wool in the spring which they carded and spun into yarn. They knit socks and mittens which were in much demand at that time. In the fall, they held a sale and auctioned them along with aprons, fancy goods, and other articles. And, of course, they served and sold lunch and coffee, too. Later they served chicken and beef suppers. Since there was no basement under their church, these activities were held in Christopherson schoolhouse with the members transporting tables, chairs, dishes, oil stoves and all other equipment needed to carry out their project. Meanwhile, the Good Hope Society was also active in serving suppers and bazaars in their church basement. It was in the early thirties they decided to serve Lutefisk and Lefse along with chicken. Since no other group around here served a lutefisk supper, it has become a traditional activity in our church. In our large basement, we serve several hundred people from miles around with lefse, lutefisk, flat bread, along with another meat and other foods that make up a real supper. Some time in the very near future, we hope to enlarge our kitchen, thus making it more convenient for us to work in. Making Lefse up at Windoms -10- |
