Commercial Club a Reality

Last Thursday evening a number of business man gathered at the Gleaner Office and talked over the prospects of a Commercial Club.  The meeting proved of much value and another meeting was called for Tuesday Eve at Volk's Hall.  At the latter meeting the organization of a club were discussed and everybody present was in favor of such a club.

 

Officers for the present year were elected as follow: C. H. Zimmerman; Pres.; John Arends; Vice-Pres.; E. F. Wollenberg; Sec.; A. C. Buker; Treas.

 

The officers elected were also authorized to draw up the constitution and by laws for the club which will be presented at the next meeting for adoption.

 

A regular monthly meeting will be held at the council rooms the last Thursday of each month.

 

The Commercial Club will fill a long felt want for the city of Greenwood and will add greatly to the progress of the entire community.

 

10 Feb 1925

 

The meeting of the Commercial Club was held at the club room Tuesday evening, February 10th.

 

The meeting was called to order by president Ira Leach, 22 members were present.

 

Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved as read.

 

Report from the standing committee.  Mr. Dale had received a letter from Mr. Beers stating that the company will discontinue the road.

 

Moved by Mr. Hoehne that Mr. Moors pay all bills pertaining to the advertising matter and turn the balance of the money, if any, over to the treasurer of the Commercial Club.

 

Moved by Mr. Moors that the bill of A. H. Noetzel for one dollar for postal cards be allowed.  Motion carried.

 

A suggestion form several of the members that we at the next meeting (have) a stag lunch.  The president appointed a committee of five, namely, Fred Oelig, C. C. Hoehne, O. H. Dale, L. E. Rees and Frank Hepburn to prepare the lunch for that evening.

 

Moved that the secretary send out cards to every member notifying him of the meeting and time of meeting.  Motion carried.

 

No other business to come before the meeting it was moved to adjourn.  Motion carried.

April, 1937

 

The Greenwood Commercial Club held their annual meeting at the City Hall, Thursday Evening and re-elected the following officers:  President, Dr. R. L. Barnes; Vice President, John Wuethrich; Secretary, Wm. F. Neuenfeldt; Treasurer, Geo. Hoehne.

 

Many new members joined the club which now includes almost every businessman in our city.

 

During the past year the club has promoted many worthwhile activities and get-togethers which were greatly enjoyed by all and a benefit to Greenwood and the surrounding communities.

 

This year the club is sponsoring the weekly Wednesday night get-togethers and large crowds will undoubtedly be in attendance.

 

They are also lending a helping hand and donating cash prizes for the Pet Parade which will take place on Thursday afternoon, May 13.  Later they will have a huge celebration and carnival.

 

Watch the Gleaner for the dates of these different entertainments.
