Verla (nee Rowe) Hales was the third wife of Loren Hales, a son of Albert and Margaret (nee Smithers) Hales, earlier settlers of York Township. Verla was the daughter of Walter and Sadie (nee Graves) Rowe. Walter was the son of William and Zelina (nee Lawrence) Rowe, pioneers of York Township. Sadie was the daughter of Walter and Hannah Graves, who came to York Township in the late 1880s. Verla’s first husband was Edward Dahl. From her first marriage she had two children, one of them being Alvin Dahl. Her husband, Loren Hales, is interred at Windfall Cemetery (Granton, Wisconsin) next to his second wife, Amelia (nee Krause) Hales. Loren Hales' first wife, Pearl (nee Davis) Hales, died unexpectedly as a young woman and is also buried at York Center Cemetery.
