One of the saddest occurrences in the many that have followed the path of an epidemic of any kind is the death of Miss Mary Marshall early Wednesday morning and the passing of her mother Mrs. W. L. Marshall about noon of the same day.

Both had been ill with pneumonia following attacks of influenza, both contracting the disease about the same time, Miss Marshall appeared to be on the gain, but had a turn for the worst early yesterday morning. The mother was so ill that she was not apprised of her daughter’s death and joined her in the long sleep without knowing that her daughter preceded her.

The Marshall family have been residents of the city for many years coming here from Tomahawk. Mr. Marshall died about two years ago. Miss Marshall was one of the city’s most efficient teachers, serving first in the fifth ward school and later in the Junior high when that school was established last year. She received her common school education in Tomahawk and took a Normal course to prepare her for teaching.

Mrs. Marshal was sixty two years of age and Miss Mary forty years old.

Two sons and brothers of the ceased survive; Walter Marshall who is married and lives at Milwaukee, and Fred, who attends the State University.

The double funeral will probably be held tomorrow afternoon from the home, Rev J. W. Davies of the Presbyterian Church, to conduct the services.

To the sorrowing young men, bereft of both mother and sister, the blow is a hard one, all the more so when they were absent from the city, and only the younger, Fred, getting here in time one of his beloved ones, his mother, before she passed away. The older son, Walter, had been summoned, but did not arrive in time. The sympathy of the community is theirs in this (illegible sentence…)

Mrs. Marshall and daughter were members of the F.R.A of which pallbearers were chosen by request.
